  • Toyota Corolla 86 GTS, First drift car?

    Hey guys,
I'm new to drifting, and soon to have my own car. I've been into drifting for a while,
and I was thinking about buying a 86 corolla hatch. Would y'all reccomend this for a newb drifter? I can get one for 1,500 bucks from a website.
But I was also thinking of a 240sx, now those are sick.

So, my question is, what would be the best first car, that is affordable, for a newb drifter?

The AE86 is NOT a good first-timer's car.

the AE86 is a great first time drift car. the 240sx is just better. but if you like the AE86 then get it. you can learn to drift in anything. it just might be a little harder to learn in an 86.

I'm sorry for asking this question over, I know how it feels back in my forum.

Thanks for the tip Tire, I think I might go with the s13...

the AE86 has a lower initial cost (lately it has been inflating) but the ammount of money you will have to put into it to keep it running is a lot higher than the not-so-old 240sx.

Yeah I was thinking that too man.
I mean, the AE86 is gonna be cheap, but getting some horsepower and tourque are going to cost some more... So I was wondering about selling my Lexus LS 400 for some money, and getting a Nissan Skyline R34, or R32... Not sure yet.

Dude, a skyline would be madd hot, but before you go on and buy an expensive car like that, i just think that you would probly want to learn in a cheaper, not so nice, rwd car. That way, you can see how it is and if you even like doing it before you dish out the money for a skyline. By the way, the corolla is sick man, sick!

The Corolla isnt the easiest car to drift in by any means for a beginner. Just get a 240, everyone else has. And for making power you dont need mad power for an 86 if you weigh under 2000lbs.

While the 240sx is easier to drift, imho if you can learn to drift in a semi-stock AE86 (light engine tune and maybe new shocks/struts & a strut brace for the suspension) you can learn to drift better since the techniques are harder to do thus increasing your skills. Also just get what you like, a good 90% or so of drifters use the 240sx (most being S13s). I personally think there's enough out there already. (Its called VARIETY people, there are other cars out there to use!)

Okinawa Drifter.........didn't you ask this question before in a different thread?
and....aren't you only like 14 without a permit and who wants to drift your parents car? its pretty amazing that you have a lexus ls400 at the age of 14....good luck trying to buy a skyline haha
but the corolla gt-s is a nice car to drift although it would cost a good amount to fix it and all that other good stuff but you should go for the 240 because purchasing an 86 you'll end up investing a lot of money....

I don't think being 14 years old would matter? When I was 15, I was drifting rental wagons in Europe :P

But the corolla is a nice car to get into. I'm already planning on getting one too.
Just need to get a suspension kit first.
