  • I just bought an FC....did i get ripped off?

1987 Mazda RX-7 Turbo II, 104k ORIGINAL miles, 21k miles on rebuilt motor w/ 3mm apex seals - by Hayes Rotary Engineering (24k warranty still in effect), 8k miles on upgraded T3/T4 turbo, spotless interior, 1-month old custom paint job (metallic red flake - matches original color of vehicle), High Intensity Discharge (HID) converted headlights, power windows/mirrors/sunroof, cruise control, LSD, HKS Fuel Cut Defenser, HKS Super Sequential Blow-Off Valve, Greddy Profec-B spec II electronic boost controller, Greddy turbo timer, 17inch Konig wheels, Alpine head unit, ACT clutch, upgraded springs & shocks, A/F & turbo boost guages inside 2-guage pod, Racing Beat exhaust, custom air intake, replaced all gaskets & hoses, new battery, spark plugs & oil/filter changed less than 2k miles ago, new oil pressure sending unit.

This was a little excerpt from the ad. I bought it today for 7k and I'm going to pick it up tomorrow because its soo nice...but I was wondering, did I get ripped off, cuz I really get impulsive at times and I fail to think until later. Thanks!

From what you wrote, it doesn't sound like you got ripped.

      Post pics when you can.

        21k miles on rebuilt motor w/ 3mm apex seals~2k
        8k miles on upgraded T3/T4 turbo~1k
        1-month old custom paint job~1k
        HKS Fuel Cut Defenser~300
        HKS Super Sequential Blow-Off Valve~300
Greddy Profec-B spec II electronic boost controller~200
        Greddy turbo timer~200
        ACT clutch~300
        upgraded springs & shocks~500
        Racing Beat exhaust~500

Bleh A rough estimate, i'm not a turbo guy, but thats around 5k, i know a s4 TII with a blown motor for 700, whatever other various parts will add up, but it looks like he got More money than he put into the car, I know of a nice s5 TII that's less than 7k and has more mods and is really nice. So you could have talked him down, you didn't neccissarly get ripped off but you overpaid a bit, you could have got it down to about 5k I would guess. I"m a na guy, but thats my opinion.

ummmm you shouldn't own a FC if you don't know what a street port is.

you didn't get ripped off at all you got a good deal. My buddy just sold his s5 chassis with s4 for 7k with a lot less mods.

I don't like seeing turbo swaps without stand-alone ECU's installed and tuned at the same time.
If it's still running on the stock ECU, it might be a disaster waiting to happen.
I think you paid too much - I bet the paint job is super nice though.
A true metallic flake paint job is several thousand dollars.

I thought the car looked really nice and it rode really nice. What type of problems will there be with the stock ecu? And sorry I don't know what a street port is, I have no real clue about rotory engines. I have a basic idea of how they function, but I'm not that informed.

Man. now i feel bad about buying the damn car.

That price may have been a little steep but I don't think you got ripped.

It really depends on a lot of other things as well...wear items, maintnence records, number of owners, history and use, etc etc.

They are right though, before you go to far make sure your turbo setup is running correctly.

I don't think stand-alone would be necessary as long as you are running the turbo ecu/harness/fuel setup. If he wasn't he would have roasted the motor the first time it went into the boost.

Was the guy ASKING 7k and you paid it?

umm well the fc computer is a hunk of crap and runs major fuel cut if you even put a DP on it. so i would go to nopistons.com and ask them whats up and not a bunch of 14 year olds on this site.

                      Durr de durr durr durrr...

                      lol I misread.

I thought he was talking about running a turbo motor on an n/a ECU/harness etc, which I imagine would be great fun for all of like 6 seconds.

                      Carry on

Porting a rotary engine is like a combination head work + cams on a piston engine.

A street port is a mild port, so it translates into running a mild cam.

Typical street port power increases are easily 10% to 15% over stock ports.
This just increases the efficiency of the engine.

If you blue book the car, typical prices ranges are $2,000 to $3,000 for Zenki FC turbos, and $4,000 to $5,000 for Kouki FC turbos.
Check out Kelly Blue Book: http://www.kbb.com/

You're paying a little more than that, so purely from a blue book point of view, it's too much.

Bottom line, as long as you are happy with your purchase, it doesn't matter what we all think.

i would have it compression tested before i bought it, and it sounds like you don't know anything about the rotary maybe you should start out with a non turbo one first

That sounds to me like a VERY good deal, around me (Chicago) a clean FC with almost no mods goes for about 7k. As long as the chassis isn't falling apart from rust its a good deal, infact if you decide to go with something different ill take it off ur hands for 7k.

I have been having so much friggin fun its unbelievable. This is the most fun car I've ever driven in. Its soo awesome! BTW, my previous car is a 4cyl camry so the difference is...you know. Anyways, I've been looking around and around here, most of the rx-7's sell for about 5-11k with almost no mods. The ones that are like 4-6k are in such bad shape, I wouldn't buy it with someone else's money! :P

Anyways, I'll try and take some pics, but I gotta find a friend with a digital camera.

                              P.S.
I powerslid around a corner by accident (really cute girl I used to hang out with saw me and waived and I forgot what i was doing), awesome. *Censored**Censored**Censored* dragging my camry around a corner is no where near as exciting.
