just got me a 90 gt4 and i'm having trouble downshift..now ii'm not the best manual driver ever...but yeah i seem to stall it often when i'm down shifting..ne one got ne hits on how to shift properly..its kinda embarassing since u know its got the awd turbo and i stall it and like pintos have to go around me....so other than practice is there something i should know bout the clutch on the gt4?? also how effecient are these on gas i can't seem to find ne thing that talks bout their gas effeciency..i mean i know that the turbo just eats gas like nothing but if i dun use it too much how good are they? if ne one can help me out i'd appreciate it. also the engine temp guage is not working...and the gas gauge seems to go all over the place so i'm not sure how much gas i have..is this normal for the gauge to move a lot? i mean i know it depends where the gas tank is and on hills it will be diff than on flat ground but yeah..maybe i just gotta get used to it..ne ways if anyone can answer any of these questions i'd appreciate it..if not thanx ne ways i guess

Well, seing as how your car is older, you probably dont have one of them fancy newer transmissions that matches the engine speed to car speed automatically between shifts. This means that you should probably double clutch. Find out where the powerband is on your Celica, then when you downshift, clutch it, throw 'er in neutral, let the revs drop/rise to the powerband (by adjusting the throttle), then clutch and put it down a gear. This sounds slow, but once you get good at it, it should greatly help.
PS if this isnt double clutching then please correct me, but dont flame me!

Wrong.
Your car has synchros. Don't bother double clutching it.
Just practice like mad, and search for "heel toe" on this forum. You will find many threads.

Hehe they've had syncro transmissions since the 60's.
You really need to fix that temp gauge. They're very important to any car, especially a turbo'd one.Last edited by MarshallMX5; 09-24-2004, 01:55 PM.
