Probably not legally...most states with big cities are against considering the "smog" factor. But I'm not totally sure about it though...I would check your city and/or state regulations. Like it Oregon it would pass, since they have no "smog" testing just need it registered.

Well actually since this is in a "noob" section we won't close it. But do you have any idea how frustrating it is to read the same daamn threads week after week after week. I love helping people out...but gees open your eyes!! ANd read the faq!!! Thats why we have it there...sometimes you need to give rough love for someone to ever understand.

I wouldn't reccomend this engine, as it has a smaller top mount intercooler compared to the RNN14. And by the way - the GTiR's also a 4x4, but the SR20 compared to the others is slightly different. Sure, it has the same S13 redtop block, has the same turbo & stuff, but it differs mainly in beefier connecting rods, stronger main cap bolts, and - yeah baby! - individual throttle body system, which provides better response and more power. You won;t find much of those engines tough, because the GTiR's production was quite limited - not many over 5000.

I would say that the best SR20 to swap in would be the S14's powerplant, complete with the 5 speed gearbox. This one has variable valve timing, resulting in better smog test results, the geabox is said to be the most reliable from all the SR 'boxes, and is affordable, considering the fact that the blacktop is waaaay less expensive than the S15 motor.
Sure, its Nitpicking, but the GTi-R had a T28 with i *think* different compressor and turbine trims than an S14 or S15 T28. Also, the GTi_R turbo was not ballsbearing liek the aforementioned S chassis turbos. So the response was not as quick as the ballbearing units but because of the blade trims the turbine actually produces a hiher peak hp than S-chassis T28s.
