2.5 rs, or 2nd gen rx7?

My favorite car for years has been the 01' Subaru 2.5rs, just because of its looks and its styling and that the new sti engine fits right into it

But on the other hand i like the rx-7 a lot as well for the rotary awesomness, and the name of the RX series is very prestiegious

But I need some opinions on which car would in the long run be better for drifting, because my camry isnt working to well for me right now :-\

I personaly love the 2.5 also, but its not a car for drifting. the 4WD makes it really hard, if not impossible, to drift. If your looking to start drifting, get an old RX7 (fc). they are cheap, lots of parts, and i am told that NA rotorys will last for ever.

ye for drifting i was leaning more towards the rx7, i even love the old styling of the car.

BTW do you know what the rx7 weight ratio is ?

Well, it would be extremely cool if you got one of those new center differentials that sends all the power to the rear for the 2.5 RS, cuz then people would be all "holy sh!t thats a subaru drifting!" However, you would need new driveshafts and such, because the rears were made to only handle so much power. I would say if you want a more humain daily driver and have mucho dollars, I would get the 2.5 RS wit the STi Motor (or not) and the new center differential from some company (too lazy to look it up). If you want easy drifting for relatively cheap and are still gonna hold on to that camry, I would say go for the Rx-7

Actually its funny you talk about the rs 2.5 and the differentials, i just got back from my job and a customer came in with a wrx with turbo back exaust, aps intercooler and turbo. I was talking to him for a while about it, and i mensioned this to him he said the same thing you have said.. I might look into pricing and how much that would cost me to do, but it might be a little out of reach for me.

I guess I'll go look up pricing and how much the rs project would cost, i know the sti engine is somewhere within the 5k - 7k range or was about a year ago.

IMO get the FC3S. Tricky handling but one of the most rewarding (not to mention coolest) rides out there. But its up to you, my friend has gotten his 2.5rs sideways happy plenty of times. So both are great I just really love RX-7's

I tell everyone the FC is hard to drift.
Most think it's an insult.
AWD vehicles need a lot of power to drift nicely.
Stay away from the FC if you're a newbie to drifting.h

Well I'm not exactly a newbie to drifting been doing it for a year or two in different cars here and there, but i have never drifted in a FC so i guess i am an (FC newbie lol).

But do you think an STI engine swap with the 2.5 would be sufficient power to drift it, I think it would be plenty but I want to know what you guys think

are you talkin about the 2 door? then the answer is probably yes. People say that the stock STi is great for powerslides and such, so that big, bada$$ motor in a lighter car (if its a coupe) should be great.

Ye I'm talking about the 2 door, but it is so hard finding them now (well atleast ones that are in good condition).

Yeah, a GC9 EJ20T swap is on my list of project cars myself.
The only downside is drivetrain is suspect on US-spec cars.

theres a member on nasioc named fattits who has done this to his 2.5 rs. all you need to do is gut your transfer case to make teh suby rwd. and it would be difficult to drift a 2.5 w/ sti motor, even with dccd, the 4wd is terrible for drifting and you run into serious problems when you pull the ebrake. if you notice, most awd drift carsare upwards od 600 hp

um...ok...but...im really confused. I'll just ignore that post. Anyways I noticed that earlier someone said that the STi Motor "fits right in." Now this is true as far as fitment goes (it will fit), but I heard the wiring is an absolute B!TCH. Especially if you get a JDM motor. I would say good luck, but maybe try to just transfer the turbo kit and turbo fitting esentials onto your motor. Im pretty sure the motors are about the same (both are 2.5 litres) and the main difference is the turbo kit. Correct me if I'm wrong, but couldn't you just transplant all turbo essentials with a little fabrication? Anyways, good luck to ya. I absolutely love subabrus.

i would choose a FC over a sub anyday of the week but thats just me. (wtf do i know im 15) drifting a 4wd is from what i hear near impossible unless you are rallying in snow or dirt and the transplant is goin to be a pain. an FC would be muuuuch cheaper and is way better if you are goin to drifting. im guesing if you're talkin bout dropping a new sti motor (which im sure is not cheap) in there, you prolly got some dough so if your willin to spend so much time on a 4wd then go for the transplant playa.
