  • Stickers: Rice or not rice?

    Hey guys,

i just dropped an sr into my 240. i got alot of stickers from all the performance parts i put in it. just wondering, is it ricey to put them on your car? i mean, i wanna put them on the rear side windows, and all the stickers i have are from reputable companies and i actually have parts from them (and not like shift knobs or crap like that, i have like HKS coilovers and exhaust and all sorts of real performance crap) but i dunno im kinda 50/50 on it. so whats up guys, fire away!

      hahahaha

i dont even know what rice is, but i hear people talk about ti all the time. "dont do that thats rice" or "wow, only ricers would do that." once i was called a "ricer" on this forum for wanting an N1 style exhasut system...so i dunno. i always thought rice was driving a lame car and putting an xhaust tip on it, then trying to race everyhitng that moves...but i guess im kinda stumped about what it actually is too now. hahahaha. whatever.

You could define RICE as "Race Inspired Cosmetic Enhancements". Under that definition, it would be RICE to put any stickers whatsoever.

However, I personally feel that whatever you do with your car is your business, not ours. Do what you like, even though others may not like it. That's why I put TMNT stickers on my car.

I would like to add, why would you put on the stickers from all those parts companies? You're giving them free advertising. If they paid you to do it, or they gave you a great deal, advertise away!

age old question...kinda like chicken and the egg... i say this...if you can back it up do it! ...be it a wing or a kit or stickers...if you have the skills/hp/suspension/brakes to back it do it! also if you actually ahve the products than put the stickers on....if you want.

It matters what kind of sticks you are putting on, like HKS an stuff is cool but if it is nopi or APC then that is a little different

Well, if you're using this car for drifting mostly, then who gives a rip? There's so much rice on just about each and every pro drift car that I want to throw up, but I still got mad respect for the driver's skills. So if this is just a weekend car, then go ahead, rep those stickers and some mad skill. But if you drive this to school or work everyday and dont want to get egged/keyed, I'd stay away from the stickers.

PS - This is my guide to Vinyl usage. If the stickers are stickers and are pretty modest (no windshield banners or big splashes, no bigger than 12" for eather side) then I'd say throw 'em on in a way that looks cool.

This is a great definition of rice I found this on an old thread.

My definition of Rice is: - A car that is not foreign or domestic any car can make the distinguishment of RICE. - The driver has a lot to do with it, if they talk mad trash and dont back it up i.e. - my car is faster(well prove it) - They ever seriously say power to weight ratio is why they should've won the race - Altezzas that did not come factory - more than 3 stickers - not being able to read a sticker (ex. Japanese writing in Alabama) - more than 1 wing ( also any wing that resemble fast and the furious) - any body kits that actually change the length of the car - painting interior body panels - after-market gauges that are not functional - an exhaust with a final diameter with more than 4 in. for street cars and 6 in for diesels - stripping out the entire interior of your street car for weight savings - the racer look --stock rims on the drive tires with 18's on the other tires - walking with a fake limp, hat backwards, new yorker wannabe's - decibal drags - baby blue paint - saying that a 12 in wing actually has a purpose - saying that you road race through traffic - sneaking up on somebody at like 120 when there doin 50 then saying you won the race - if you say you lost because V-TEC didnt kick in - if you go to the strip and as you get to the burnout box you have the radio blaring, seat practically laying down, and keep missing gears because riding out and looking good is more important - you try and stage with the back tires.

eh, i dont really care about fitting in. im not building this car for other people to enjoy. i was just wondering your opinions, thats all. im most likely going to put them on the back side windows. they are pretty small stickers. only about 1 inch by 6 inches. as for fitting in, hahaha. i dont think im capable of fitting in!

The reasons I don't enjoy stickers (you can put em on, just hear me out though):

Think of it this way: Would you tattoo something like Zyrtec on your back without any compensation because you use it? Same would go for decals: you are advertising for the companies with nothing to gain!

The stealth factor. I always found it cooler when I used to drag race when other cars had NO stickers in their windows (I see a lot of redneck-mobiles with them, you know MSD Ignition, COMP cams, B&M Shifter, etc.). I find it a lot more fun to have people find out whats in my car by either them asking or looking for themselves!

Alright, let's suppose you take those stickers you got from the companies and put them on your window or whatever. I bet they're all sorts of different vinyl stickers or those solid white background ones. To me that looks kinda tacky, something you'd see on a fender of a Stock Car. Now if you want to get vinyl decals cut that all match the same color, then guess what, it's gonna cost more money!

Be different, let your car do the advertising!

That's just my 2 cents though

                              good call

well i disagree with you about the advertisement factor. i dont mind or exppect any compensation for putting their stickers on my car, i believe if the product is good and you enjoy it, why not help out the companies name.

But as far as the sleeper/stealth look, i agree. it is alot more fun to have someone find out youre fast by racing you rather than just looking at your stickers and making assumptions. good call!
