thats why the canadaians can get the cars thatwere new in 1990. and canda is 15 year same as australia. And the price is in Canadian so if i do get one from there, and federalize, it will be alot cheaper than a ebay oddity or a overpriced used car like motorex. i really couldnt give a damn if it was rhd unless i was a mailman but it would be that i had a car that i really liked as a kid, and to have that would be more than worth the trouble.

Just talk to US Customs, the NHTSA/DOT, your local DMV, and a reputable RI that has a proven track record. RIs can talk all they want and claim to be able to get stuff done...but actually getting it done is a whole different matter.

No point in making this thread any longer than it has to be, since you believe some of us are 15 year old kids. Get your info directly from the source and you will have the truth.

Since this is for someone's so called "girlfriend" and it has nothing to do with drifting, let's give him what he wants.

Buy an accord, buy all the parts that you would need to make it the Type-R model, then paint it pink.

Well actually, I AM a 15 year old kid (almost!). But still, WTF does that have to do with anything? Believe it or not, some of us 15 year olds know our sh!t man! Were not all Initial D riceboys. Come to think of it, WTF is wrong with Initial D? LOL

              Initial D is alright.

But the reason why that or the fast and the furious was brought up is because someone was thinking about the reason why they became "drifters" and "racers."

read the first few posts, and decided to post... sorry if it's been covered elsewhere...

                Couple of things...

1 - From what i've heard, motorex lost their importing liscense. I heard that RB motoring may be importing and legalizing skylines, but not sure.

2 - Reason there is a huge influx of r32's through canada - Anything more than 15 years doesn't need anything special to register and legalize. So 1990 skylines can be shipped over and registered the same as any other car in Canada.

3 - Anything made domestically in the US has to be retrofitted with US DOT approved parts - all glass, bumpers, bumper supports, airbags, etc. It's a HUGE pain.

4 - again from what i've heard, entire cars can't be shipped over here anymore. Something about post 9-11. They now have to be shipped with the motor outside the cars, no doors, hood, trunk / hatch, etc. They can be put in the same container, but you have to do a bunch of assembly once it gets here.

5 - where there's a will, there's a way. For every rule, there's 2 or 3 ways to get around it. But that would be illegal. So i won't tell you HOW to do it. but yeah, there are ways to do it...

Complete cars can still be shipped, at least in NH I went to the DOT and there are only 2 times you have to deal w/ the government. Customs the vehicle has to be declared and a purpose for it's import. Once through customs they don't care about it anymore. Next you have to get it titled and tagged, in NH if the vehicle is 15 or older all you need is paperwork showing it is yours and they will register it, if newer you have to go through a long process of calling ppl. Once it is titled and on the road they don't care. If you try to pull a fast one and fail at it they will simply mark your car as totaled, they don't take it, just put it in the books as to never be on the street.

I dunno If this helps anyone, but last week I saw a JDM Lancer Evolution 4 here in New York City. The car had NY plates on it but the owner had a sign saying he was selling it. I know nothing more than that but my random guess is that he imported it here and prolly messed up some legal crap with it and has to sell it.

in ref to motorex they were shut down LONG ago due to screwing over C-west and Fukking the gov too the cars they sent to the gov were all "legal" the ones they sold were still "JDM" and had not been legalized just so they'd cash in on extra money....these are the people that kill it for us cuz once u screw the gov the gov screws you.. so you can all thank motorex for making all this much harder

OK kids this is getting out of control. First off Initial D is pretty bad a$$ I'll give you that. And as for the RHD car in NC... aint gonna happen. I used to live in Cali but just moved to NC because joined the Army and am at FortBragg. Now NC is not known for drifting as far as I can see on the streets. Everyone here in this town is all about FF cars. Not even cool ones either, I see cars like Aleros, Kia's and old Saturns running around. The only shop that I have seen around here that is remottly to motorsports is a CRX only shop.... That being said I think your B.S.ing us kid. GOD HOW I MISS LA

A couple of points from someone who has drifted LHD, RHD, and daily driven with both.

My S14 was nice and nimble, and everything you would expect from a LHD. However a few months back I bought a 32, and RHD is not noticibly different when driving is concerned. Except for 3 points:

                          1. Drive throughs of any sort are now a pain in the A**. Especialy at ferry terminals and border crossings, because you are not allowed to just pop out of the car and run to the other side.

                          2. You most definitly do NOT look pimp when you go to flash your headlights and end up turning on your windshield wipers instead.
As well as using the turn signal when it is on the opposite side of the column. (most noticable repeat mistake when you have a LHD and a RHD.)

                          3. The 32 is dangerous as all hell!! There are no side impact beams and that is very disconcerting when making a left turn. When making a left you have to be absolutely sure nobody is coming, this often means waiting for the opposing turning lane to clear out so you can see.

Keep in mind North American roads were not designed with the RHDrivers safety in mind. Nor are North American drivers used to seeing a RHD car. I almost get into or cause an accident every month because some idiot is trying drive and stare at the same time.

I wanted the 32 for its ability to perform, not the novelty. Figure out why JDM is so important when the tuning market is becoming global. North American Manufacturers are fast rivaling the Japanese, all it will take to level the playing field is a little time.

Well that was a short rant... Laters.

                                Evolution Imports

Vehicles are imported to Alaska and then the titles can be transfered to any other state EXCEPT CA OR HI. How I'm getting my FD over. Insurance can be done through State Farm, All-State and another place. Emissions? Run your tank down to almost empty (Less than a 16th or a tank) before you go do them. Put a bottle of rubbing alcohol (look for very high percentage alcohol) in the tank, do emissions, fill up with high octane IMMEDIATELY. That's how things are done. No beating around the bush or insults to newbs, you want it, you /or your parents have the money, go for it.
