  • Ever wonder where the miata got its look?

This is the car that was in the room when Mazda designed the miata.

    the 1967 Lotus Elan

    115 hp 1.5L DOHC I-4

    Less then 2000 lbs.

both the miata and the elan have a separate subframe carrying the engine, transmission, and differential.

even the valve covers are almost the same!

when i first saw this car i was like "classic miata?!?" then i found out later that the miata was actually based on the lotus elan.

It wasn't just the elan that inspired the miata it was pretty much all the small british roadsters of the 60's-early 70's. The Elan was the top of the line though. One of the first to sport the DOHC.
