  • tuning for 270-300 whp Questions

    hey watsup?

im going to be starting an s14 project as soon as i get back to the states in june. im starting my research and i have a couple questions.

from the start i plan on using a completely stock s14blacktop. my question is, if i upgrade the turbo, manifold, injectors, fuelpump, and add a fmic, what are my best options for tuning?

can i get away with a FPR and a boost controller and maybe a couple hours on a dyno?
i have noticed the apexi FC. kinda expensive. anyone have any experiance with it?

like the title says, my goal is around 270-300 whp. i plan on using 550cc and a gt25r along with the necessities.

    thanks for any direction.

even with the numbers your shooting for not way high i would recommend getting a F con or a greddy e manage ment system more tuning capabilites and who knows u may get even more out of it then what your expecting
i would also say ditch the VVT-i it can actually cause u to lose power

VVT-i is toyota. You're thinking about VTC.

I would recommend the Apexi PFC, if not that, then I'd suggest an apexi SAFCII, PFC is the best bet though. I've played with that system quite a few times, very easy to use.

you'll definitely need a larger MAF Sensor from a Z32 or Q45. the stock ECU won't read that, so you'll need some form of piggyback FMU for sure.

Alot of people have used the Apexi S-AFC 2 because of it's ease of use and price. i believe the Greddy profec e-01 is even better, and has more features as well as upgradability.

You are an idiot. 20 deg. adv. timing on Intake cam from 1900-5900 RPM, good fat torque, and top end flow like a normal SR. Tomei makes cams that do not require you to eliminate the VTC when upgrading to them because of how benefitial they are to low-end (something an S13 SR has NONE of). Where have you ever seen someone lose power on a VTC equipped motor. Only reason to ditch it is huge cams that require adj. cam sprockets, a huge turbo, total standalone... Then you might as well get an S13 motor.

            Yup,

            Fuel Pump
            Z32 300ZX MAFS
            550cc injectors
            SAFC
            FMIC
            Profec B boost controller
Dyno tune for like 1.1 Bar of boost. Keep the T28, its good for at least 300 RWHP.

You'll need SAFC (or similar... though SAFC is easiest to tune imo) to read the different MAFS and also to sdjust the fuel curve for the 550cc injectors (stock are 370cc).
