    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hey guys just woundering if you guys have ever had this problemb i took my car to a smog only station today to get it smoged so i can register it, i have a 96 240sx se. The guy put it on the rollers and did his thing poped the hood and passed, but then he grabed a connector looked like a 24pin or something and stuck it into a port underneath the steering consol to get read outs, 5 min later he waves me over and informes me that my obdII has a malfunction and that i have to wait for it to be ready to be tested/smoged. this is what the computer print out said.

this vehicle faild the MIL/check engine light due to failure to successfully complete all OBD self test.

do i have a bad ecu? i havent had any problembs witht he car and ive reset the ecu before so i really dont know what to do, plz help me out..

It sounds like you need to set your readiness/emmissions monitors on your car. Readiness is a series of self tests your ecu performs on the various emissions components (air injection, front and rear O2, Evaporative emissions, etc.) during a full drive cycle. When was the last time you erased your ECU? MOst monitors will set within a few miles of driving (10-20 miles) after erasing your ECU's memory. If they still havent set I suggest you take your car to a dealer. Most dealers should only charge about 1 hr labor to set your emissions monitors if that is the problem, if not they can tell you what system if failing.
