how can i figure out where the wheel will sit by the size and off set. Is there a way i can measure it to see where it will fit properly? i plan on doing a wide body conversion and i dont want so much fender gap and i would like the wheel to be as close to the fender as possible. Im trying to see what off set and width would look best on the car. Do you guys get what im tryin to do?

i guess theres not really an equation, but try to imagine it with your head, or draw it. the wheel is attached at a certain point on the hub. figure out how much space is between your current wheel and where you want it to be. say your wheel is sunken in 3.5". Figure out the specs on your current wheel as well, say its 16x7 +40. The wheel will be pushed out one mm per one mm of lower offset, due to the difference in mounting point on the rim. Each inch you add will also push it out one inch further. say you go for 18x9.5 +12 wheels...I think the lip would be pushed out 2.5" + 28mm which is about 3.6", just about what you need, if your current wheel is sunken in 3.5". However, you must also remember that when you increase the wheel width, youre also minimizing the space between the shock and the inside face of the wheel, so keep that in mind as well. Lower offset and/or spacers will help clear the shock body if it doesnt with the offset you have. I hope this helped!

im still really confused. i kinda get it...ok, i found an offset calculator on 1010tires.com and i put in the specs of the wheel i have and the wheel size i want to get. it tells me, 36mm less and extend 40mm. im not sure on how to measure that on my wheel or what. So it will bring my wheel out 40mm from where it is now and i will have 36mm more clearance from my strut? Do i measure this from my wheel size now? so i can measure 40mm out from the outside of my current rim? is that how far it will come out. damn this is really confusing me, i think its all the numbers or im trying to hard. But from what i understand right now is, the extend number i get on the calculator is where the outside of the lip on my rim wheel extend to, or..something like that...ok help me out. i will make it easier. Im getting a 20mm front fender and 50mm rear fender, i want to fill in that gap i have and bring it as close to the new fender as i can without rubbing. currently i have a width 6" with 40mm offset, now what? the wheels i want are 17x7.5 +45mm (front) 17x9 +38mm (rear)
From what i figured out with the offset calculator is, i have 6mm in the front of space, and 10mm in rear, this is the outside of the rim (lip) to the fender. Is this how much gap i will have with the new fenders and these wheels? So then i can get some spacers correct? how much space should i have from the wheel and the fender, 2mm is ok correct? If you can make it as simple as possible for me to understand it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
edit* oops its a 30mm rear fender, i just checked it again... so now the 17x9 +38mm wont fit right? what about a 17x8 +38?Last edited by TokyoDrifterxo7; 03-25-2006, 01:09 PM.

I dont really know what you're talking about, but I do know that the specs u posted are definetely not going to be flush on a s13 or s14. Take your current wheels, post the specs, and measure the space between the lip and the edge of the fender. I do suppose you want at least a bit of neg. camber, so maybe add 10 mm to that measurement.
edit: i realized one of my statements was wrong. when X inches are added to the wheel's width, X/2 inches are added to each side. So if you get a 16x8 wheel vs a 16x7 wheel with the same offset, the 16x8 wheel will sit .5" closer to the edge of the fender, and .5" closer to the shock body. Also, I checked how i calculate the position of the wheel with the offset calculator, they are one and the sameLast edited by dreamdrivedrift; 03-25-2006, 08:59 PM.

this is on a rx7. i think i get it now. i will measure it later once i get better, i just got sick today...arrr So what would you recommend with my set up right now? It's a FC3s and it has 6" +40mm currently. I will install 20mm wider front fenders, and 30mm rear fenders. Now i want to close the gap with the new wheels, so what size width and offset would work to bring the lip and the new fender as close as possible?
