  • FC swaps

does anyone know of any swaps into an FC that have kits or that aren't that difficult besides V8's. Its just that I don't really understand rotaries and like pistons more, and also the FC.

      I meant any piston engines, like SR20, CA18, 1JZ, RB20, etc.

I saw an FC with a Nissan SR20DET engine in it. I don't remember the drift team it was on, but quite a nice conversion. I doubt it was from a kit, though. I think anything you try to swap into an RX-7 is going to be a very involved project. But honestly, I like piston engines too, and believe me, rotaries aren't as confusing as they seem. I recommend going to a "how things work" website or picking up a Mazda rotary sports car book like those written by Jack Yamaguchi. They help to illustrate the history and inner workings of the rotary engine. After reading it, it made me jealous that I didnt have a rotary.

its pretty easy kiddo. Just bust out your tape measure and some cardboard to make some templates.
As far as engine, id put a nice 22R in there. Straightforward swap.

I once swapped a 3tc into an 85 Rx7 for a friend. Some head work, cams, and a holley made it a nice little hybrid beast.

From what Ive heard rotary engines have problems and there hard to work on, but also that there so small that you get great weight distribution, and you can get much more horsepower out of less liters, I guess you are probably correct about why I like piston engines more and maybe If I had more experience with rotaries I would like them more but I was just looking for all possibbilities for cars because I want to be different and possibly get an FC, or maybe a Cressida or a lexus for drifting because 240's and 86's are getting expensive, because of the big boom in US drifting, and because all the stupid ricers are trying to take over like the same thing that happened to the MK3 Supra after that stupid *Censored**Censored**Censored* clown of a movie Fast and the furious came out. Sorry just venting, It just pisses me off that right when I get my license all the prices of good drifting cars goes up because drifting hits the mainstream, and what pisses me off more is that people treat me like I just jumped on the bandwagon even though my brother has been drifting his 86 since 1993 right after he came back from japan and has taught me everything I know.
Please don't ban me I just had to vent and It won't happen again.

I feel you. I see kouki taillights everywhere now, just staring back at me with those rings. My parents weren't keen on the idea of me buying a used car and a used engine from five thousand miles away...I'm a couple years ahead of the curve but I'm probably going to start falling behind.

If you have questions about engine swaps, go to www.rx7club.com and get flamed all to hell....thank you.

Buying any RX-7 just to do a motor swap is a good way to waste money. A LS-1 conversion on a FD is around 9g's

Chris Forsberg had his FC for sale up here and he swapped in a SR. His friend and I believe also his roommate Tony Angelo bought it and drifts it at comps even.

DIdn't Forsberg put an SR in a 350Z?

At least he's not trying to put in an SBC.
