  • S14 w/ RB26DETT swap

How do these cars fair up in drifting and backroad/canyon driving? Are there any noticeable flaws that are incorrectable as far as handling goes? lmk

unbalanced heavy front end for starters, too much "fly off the road" potential

First of, the cost will kill you. You would need to modify the steering column, as the turbos simply don't make enough space (a giant single unit would become useful there). Secondly, you'd need a custom driveshaft, a GTS-t gearbox and all the stuff to make it running. Last but not least, number three: it's simply not worth it's price. Get an RB25 complete with a GTS-t drivetrain and we'll talk. There was a D1 champion car powered by an RB25, so who said they had to be worse than 26's, huh?

EDIT: OH240SE, 26 really is quite a heavy thing (6 banger, plus it has a cast-iron block), but consider the fact that you don't really need 50/50 front-rear balance, just around 55/45 to make it going well.

I'm not a n00b I know exactly what is entailed in the RB swap. I am just curious about weight distribution and suspension dynamics. Things like how it'd perform in situations where I need to aim the front end of the car in different directions back to back, like backroading and stuff.

Then you know that it is a lot heavier than an SR or KA, and that it moves the center of gravity and increases the Polar Moment of Inertia, unless you are riping a gaping hole in the Firewall to set it back Z33 style...

if you only want your car for drifting and touge type driving then getting a rb26 would simply be a waiste of money, you can get plenty of power with the much lighter(hence better handling) sr20det, rb26dett is more suited for drag and all out top speed

depends on what your power goals are. the rb's work quite well in s13s and s14 for drifting, the car still handles great but is a bit more loose . rb's are also alot cheaper than sr's (not sure if they are in the states too?). go for an rb20det if your power goal is around 300hp, otherwise go for rb25det (preferably out of r34 with solid lifters) as they can make much more power easily, just can't run as much boost cus of compression.

Hmmm id go with a rb25 and just get a stroker kit if you really want it. It would make a beast but as far as drifting, like they have said, heavy front end. Thats why Signal Auto made the 350z powered by the sr20det. Lighter than the vq and rb but with the proper gear, it makes for a road warrior.

EDIT- As far as costs go, it would prob be like 4k - 6k, idk i havnt really looked into the rb market. If you really want an rb, just get a rb with the skyline. If you want rwd get the Gts/t from R32, beastly lookin car and it performs as well without awd!
