I got my '87 gts coupe with 118k original miles off an old guy for $800. All original. And this is in the Bay Area too, where good cheap cars are impossible to find.
Keep looking and be patient. The last thing you want to do is get all excited and buy a p.o.s. that you're gonna hate. I've seen it so many times: Rush into buying a car that you're not too satisfied with then hear about a way better car for cheaper!
