Word has it that the picture that was supposed to be the new 7 is a fake and that Mazda doesn't have plans for it. But that could be false as well. I think that if there is a need for it they may do it but the 8 is a very capable platform.

there is alot of conflicting stories bouncing out of Japan on the RX7. There was a concept car that was made and was to flagship its return but then there was a report that the RX7 has been abandond. Only Mazda knows. But just a little inside info. Next year the goverment will drop the power restrictions on new cars and Honda has jumped back with a S2000R that is supposed to be a 6 cylinder 380hp wepon. Lets see if this gells out.

Wow...thanks Drift..that's great info. I know I've always loved the RX7, and the new one has always been of great interest to most of us FD owners. I hope Mazda does produce another one that's even better than the final gen.

By the way, I tried to PM you, but your box is full..so I just emailed you.

              Thanks!

Oh...and about the FD3S's reliability...I really like the theory behind this Japanese Tuner....Racing Art...They believe that it's about the care you put into the car, and if you make it reliable through PROPER tuning, and do it right..it's a very reliable car.

I've put a translated link here for everyone to read, you can get the drift of what he's trying to say:

I agree with you on alot of that stuff. I have been around Rotaries since day one of my driving career. My first car was a first gen. 82. The firsts and the seconds are great and very reliable. As long as you kept oil in them, they ran forever. It's only when they went to the third gen twin setup that things go bad. It's actually not the engines fault. The engine is still a very good powerplant. The porting, placement of the twin setup and the size of the engine bay all come together to make it screw up. It's a sad fact, if you up the power significantly and drive it hard, it will fail and usually sooner than later.

I also went to that webpage and Holy Shakespeare. Understanding that was a chore let me tell you. The method of thinking is right on though. Tune it right and it will run. I'm sorrythough, no matter what is said, my car reminds me of a crotchety old man. Somedays it want's to run fine and others it wants to sit on the porch. They just don't last under hard fun time. When everything is right and the moon shines just right they are wearwolves, but let one tiny thing not be in alignment and they go down hard. They just can't take the abuse that a pushrod engine can.

It reminds me of the US and Russian airforce. The US planes need to have nice pirstine, clean runways to take off and land. The Russians don't, they take off on patchwork runways and makeshift facilities. Their planes are made to run in an environment that isn't perfect, that isn't policed of debris. Same with Rotaries and pushrod motors. Rotaries are the US and pushrods are the Russians.

How much do you want for the. I have a 91 miata pretty clean, tried to convert it to rotary but way to pricey for the kit and the engine. I've been wanting to sell it for a 95-98 240 but the people that live around me want to much for theres. How much do you want for yours???

The complex vaccuum system on the twin turbo setup is a nightmare. The hoses also tend to crack,or slip. The radiator is awful, the A/C placement is all wrong, the intercooler is mediocre, the AST is plastic, battery's are known to go sour due to high temps, interior likes to crack,Mazda laid a crap paint job.Rotaries fall victim to bad tuning by people who don't understand fuel re-mapping,and crank up the boost, which in turn causes the car to run lean,Apex seal cracks, engine needs a rebuild, and the rotary gets a bad name. That sounds like the jist, but all the FD's I have seen are great.Worth the time if you have the money and dedication, just look at what RE Amemiya was pulling with his cars at Tsukuba.Fast, beautiful, rev to 9,000,love to rev high, sound unique, and something that no other car could match.Downside, they require great throttle control, paitence, understanding, dedication, and a lot more.Screw around with these things and you'll be like Wan at D1.

Dude...can't say it any better than that....the Mazda did come with alotta concerns, but they really engineered the thing till it was almost too much...I think the vacum system ended up being a little OVER-engineered, but when it's done right, with fresh equipment, it runs great.

My FD has had everything replaced and a whole day of tuning behind it by a qualified tuner. It works great...plus, I'm conservative on the boost, I only run 10 to 12PSI and 10psi for me is good for about 300hp/265bhp.

RE Amemiya is the man, and the cars he puts on the track are amazing..both in form and in power. He's one of many RX7 tuners that know what it's all about...tuning. His cars have captured the Tsukuba title many times...I've seen all of the Option videos where he does the time trials, and he's da man.
