240vs.miatavs.FC3svs.FB(firtscar)?

I'm think about either getting a 240 (s13 or s14 if I find one cheap enough) or FC3S (non-turbo)

As a first car, you won't be getting to as much trouble if you don't do the engine swap. Personally I'm going to drift in a low powered car to master technique and control/feeling.

The 13b non-turbo actually live a fairly long time compared to the turbo ones. I've heard of guys track racing a whole season with one and not having to rebuild it.

The k24de should live like any other import 4cyl engine.

I guess it comes down to the how well each car is out of the box and with mods.. I don't see as many FC3S drift cars as 240's.. though maybe I'm looking in the wrong places...

Any got any thoughts on chasis differences ?

FCs are alittle better balanced. But i've heard FC owners say S13s were easier to control. The FC will probably out handle a S13 out of the box though.

what about an FC3S vs a s14??

isn't the s14 much better balanaced than the s13?..

A s14 is better balanced but not by much and I believe it weighs more than the S13. But I own both a FC and a S14 and Id take FC anyday over the s14. An FC still has better weight distribution and weighs less. Its like comparing an S13 and a soarer.

Nah maybe a percent or two. Though i have to admit the Onevia body style is worse when it coems to distribution, Lightest rear, heaviest front.

But where only talking a 3 point difference or so. the S14 is probably alittle better balanced, its easier, which means more weight all around so the engine is probably only throwing it off less then the lighter S13.

The FC is still better balanced then the S14, and they are lighter then S14s. S14s probably handle better then FCs and S13s stock simply because there so much knewer. suspension bushings everything is alot newer then the S13s and especialy the FCs. modified though i would be surprised to see a S14 with similar mods out handle a FC, or a S13. though these are just my assumptions based on there weight and aproximate balance. no hard facts here.

well if similar mods to any of the s13, s14 or fc would cause some interesting comparison problems...

i guess there's tons of s13 and s14 drift car examples..

anyone got any FC examples ??

I'm guessing it may come down to appearance, availability, and pricing..

Canadians. What are you guys talking about? FCs helped get this scene where it is. FCs were right alongside 86s back in the day. What do you mean "any good examples of FC drifters"? I come here figuring that maybe if I pick my threads wisely I will avoid hearing BS but I dont guess it can be helped. You guys are killin me.

I wan to see what other people have done.. suspension, brakes, roll cages, turbo's, etc..

no offense but i'm flipping though mags, watching the dvd's but I don't see any serious shots of or pics of FC's..

I take a look at the D1 japanese list.. I don't see an FC!!!
I'm looking at this amateur drift competition list and there's only 2 fc's.. 15 s13 and 5 s14's and its a 41 car entry list..

I totaly respect what an FC has done but I'm interested in how far the chasis can go and how far people have taken it..

is it just unpopular with the current drift crowd? underappreciated by todays top drifters ??

Yes and all D1 cars are perfect examples of what drift cars should be. Soarers, GTOs, and Daihatsus, and I even saw one jump in a 360 modena. So we should all go buy those cars cuz they must be perfect for drifting. Yes, the FC is underappreciated. Ppl are scared of rotaries (I dont mean pros). But I prefer that to everyone getting an FC and not knowing what they are doing to their car, or swapping in a piston engine. The S13s are plentiful, cheap and relatively new. You dont see a lot of hachis compete at the pro level either. What do you see? Cars that these drivers want to drive. 350zs, Soarers, S15s. Are you a pro? Why are we talking about pros? Im not here to argue, but dont dismiss great cars.

why not just get a N/A Fc to start with they are cheap and run forever (we have a few guys with 200,000 miles on the stock motor) I have one and it drifts fine , sure it would be better with a turbo but it has pleanty of power to get loose

Wow!..I'm surprised I got so many replies, most of the time I only receive 2 or 3 replies.But I guess you get stupid answers when you ask stupid questions Now my choices are narrowed down to either a FC or a 240 and the way it looks the FC will probly be my choice.I found a super clean white one in my neighborhood but I'm not sure if it's turbo or N/A..or the price so you never know.

Is it possible to get 250+HP from a N/A for a cheap price?
Is tein a good suspension to start off with?

It'll probly be while before I can afford any mods..oh well

if you think a fc or 240 come out of the box for drifting, check out the miata....the it's a roadster, the suspension is tighter on it stock than alot of car's with after market suspension. The miata is rwd, comes with vlsd (most of the time, it was an option) and all sorts of goodies. The center of gravity is low, but not ridiculously low. a miata with minor suspension mod.s and some power od.s can do very well on the course....miata's = road carvers....and if done right, they carve the road sideways...

I dont know wat D1 list or amature list u are lookign at but the FC is WELL represented in both of those areas

There arent a lot of mods for NA FC as they have 43 less moving parts than a piston engine but with a race bridge (J) port, you could get 250hp. Not cheap though unless you can do it yourself, then its free (not including parts for the rebuild) if you already have a die grinder. Mods for rotaries are more services than parts. I mean, sure you can go out and buy lightened and high compression rotors, but then you've replaced most of your engine. Oh and you have to be careful with the porting cuz you are talking timing, not just size, when you mess with a rotaries ports.
