Formula Drift Hits the Streets of Southern California April 2, 2006

Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach Street Course Creates New Dynamic for First Round of 2006 Need for Speed Formula Drift Championship

IRVINE, CA (January 4, 2006) -- Formula Drift, Inc. today announced that the kick off competition for its 2006 Need For Speed Formula Drift Championship presented by Circuit City will run for the first time on a real city street track on Sunday, April 2.

Over 50 of the top professional drifters will take the sport back to its roots and to the history books once again transitioning from the traditional stadium and asphalt track to a real street course as the competition will use the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach street course’s turns 9, 10 and 11 between Seaside Way and the famous hairpin turn on Shoreline Drive in Downtown Long Beach.

Additionally, the event will take over the adjacent parking lot at the Long Beach Convention Center for team, vendor and paddock space making this not only the biggest drifting event to hit Southern California, but quite possibly the largest Drifting event every hosted internationally.

Need for Speed Formula Drift Championship is part of a week-long run of activities leading up to the 32nd Annual Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach.

Combined discount ticket, booth and sponsorship packages will be available for the Need for Speed Formula Drift 2006 and the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach.

Formula Drift Inc. is only North American drifting Championship and the first organization to bring professional drifting stateside. Need For Speed Formula Drift is presented by Circuit City and sponsored by America’s Tire Company, Discount Tire Direct, Mazda, Falken Tire, Toyo Tire, Yokohama Tire, Bridgestone Tire, Cooper Tire, Dunlop Tire and Modified Magazine

          Turns 9, 10, and 11 huh..

That looks like it could be a tough course to run especially that hairpin onto shoreline drive..its sooo narrow I dont know how the drivers are going to go through that in tandem it should be interesting to see..

Read the map below..the only first gear corner you see is turn 11..its REALLY tight..watching the cars slide through that is gonna be some slick sh!t!

                7th gear entry FTW!

champ car woudl be sweet if they ziptied on all their aero so it flew off at speed and drifted thru the corners.

I'll be sure to pass along this suggestion next time I talk to the folks at Champ Car...I'm sure they'll agree with you that this move's a no-brainer.

                            Guys,

This year, along with the LBGP Association, we have a really cool deal for anyone that buys a ticket to the Need For Speed Formula Drift, Round 1 Championship event on the streets of Long Beach. The event as you know is April 2nd

Any FD ticket buyer, be it online or at the gate will receive $10 off any general admission ticket or general admission multi-day ticket package to the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach the week later on April 7th, 8th and 9th

This year's Grand Prix will feature an invite-only team competition of Formula Drift pro drivers. Those of you that joined last year know how much fun the race can be. This year we are trying to do a FD fan meet to watch the race and of course of boys drift it up.

So to recap: Buy a ticket to the Sunday April 2nd FD event, get $10 off any GA ticket for the 32nd Toyota Grand Prix on Long Beach on April 7th, 8th and 9th.
