Formula DRIFT Returns to Road Atlanta Home of the Inaugural Formula DRIFT Event Back in 2004
Road Atlanta opened in 1970 and was home of the inaugural Formula DRIFT event back in 2004. The 2.54-mile, 12-turn track is owned by Panoz Motorsports and hosts many events throughout the year including Formula DRIFT.
Utilizing Turns 9, 10A, and 10B of the road course, cars slide sideways through the turns and then hit the loop before the Suzuki bridge and back towards Turns 10B, 10A, and then ends dramatically by drifting uphill on an incline.
With a 1st place at this season’s opener at Round 1: Streets of Long Beach, Ryan Tuerck has jumped ahead of the competition. Last year Tuerck finished in 3rd place, will he be able to keep his podium street going? Last season’s winner was Rhys Millen coming off a missed Round 1 event to take home the victory and ultimately finished the Formula DRIFT season in 3rd place overall and cemented his legacy by winning the Drifting World Championship. This is also the first event of the Tires.com Triple Crown bonus award.
Round 2: Proving Ground at Road Atlanta will be on of the most anticipated events of the season. The event will be spread between 2 days of drifting action and new for 2009 a Top 32 head-to-head competition format. Drivers are tested on the fast entry and tight turns of the road course and will have to prove that they have what it takes to reach the podium.
