I checked with the lead tech, if the car is too lowered to drive on the alignment lift the front bumper/valence cover must be removed which is a flat rate of an hour labor. The sandy blvd store however has an alignment pit so theres no ramp. They can do lowered cars without having to remove anything. Also lifetime alignments we can only adjust on-car adjustments like slides and concentrics and adjustment rods if you have to have shim/wedge kits those are extra or we just dont mess with that angle. Some of you guys have camber/caster kits which I think we will adjust...atleast I do. The thing to remember with lowered cars is they are no longer in the realm of factory spec and the suspension travels differently so you might want to have an idea of what you want. I have consulted with some specialists and our alignment machine manufacturer. They typically agree the important thing with performance cars is primarily making sure they track straight and use the alignment measurments to detect bent steering/suspension componets. Minimizing tie wear is kind of a moot point with drifting however I have found that typically a 1-2 inch lowered car only needs a quarter to half a degree of extra camber. The side effect is the farther you take the tire from level you will have uneven tire wear for daily driving but maximum tire contact while in heavy turns. There is an elaborate technique to find angles on a non stock car but this post is already too long. I would be happy to talk about this further in the future...

      ciao...

          • The emissions are pretty strict here. You have to run it on a dyno, but if everything's running OK, you should pass.

Hey WytKnight, do most people think like you when it comes to lowered cars, or do most of them not really care?

                    • i think its best if all of us reping all the shops just post basic info as well as a link and phone number. This way no shop wars! YAY!!! and it keeps it cleaner on the forums...ie not advertising as much as just giving phone number and a website.

I dont really know to be honest. I guess it depends on how much the person knows about suspension. Some ppl get thier cars lowered for looks. Tire/wheel combos and bodykits can give the illusion of lowering sometimes. I kinda torn if Im going to lower mine or not. My supra in its stock configuration has great handling. It won import car of the year in 82. It beat many imports in comparison tests in the early 80's. One thing when lowering your car is it should be stiffened up to keep the suspension travel down. Then you wont bottom out as easily, rougher ride though. It depends on what you want. Manufacturers set up a car to balance handling and ride comfort typically. I might drop mine an inch when I get new springs, mine are worn and the car is about 2 inches lower than stock. I also found a place that still has a bodykit for my ol 82. I dont care too much about ride comfort, my car has good seats. I want tight performance handling.

So to make a long answer short I think its a choice of looks vs. performance in the eye of the beholder. I choose performance....
