GT LIVE/JGTC/D1GP on Speed Channel (March 6th)

Editing is horrible... And so many commercials and the clip that they show everytime they go on commerical or come back from commercial could easily make up another 5 min!! I was annoyed even I had was watching it on TiVO. The replays for the crashes were edited like it was one of the "The Most Amazing Videos" on FOX... replaying it in slow motion like 2-3 times. Why can't they do it more professionally with proper incar and outcar replay and cover the race from start to finish instead of cutting in and out of it!?

However, it was great to see drifting and JGTC have made it to Speed Channel... Also a delight to see our cars in it! Especially the Chris milano's "jumping out of the car burn out".

After watching it i got all pumped up to go play some GT4 so i had to go on a 7 hour GT4 binge to get it out of my system, dam its so fun going into the final sweeper at tsukuba 3 wide in Jgtc rockets

I was pretty disappointed in the coverage. If you look at the last five seconds of shows on Speed and ESPN, you can see who made the show - this one was made by WATV. The company does an overall good job as far as making TV shows goes and I think they did a good job.

But ...

The girl - needs to go. She's so unimportant to me that I can't even remember her name. She adds nothing to the broadcast, doesn't show that she knows anything about anything, can't do the little amount of work that she did do without a teleprompter (reading the words off a screen) and isn't even all that hot. Maybe it would be worse if she was hot - that would make her seem dumber.

Glasses guy. Yes, he's goofy, but I get the impression that he's more of a muscle car guy. Cool - if that's what he's good at, let him do it - not a GT / D1 event. That was a poor decision to put him on this and I don't think he connected with the audience very well. I also didn't appreciate him belittling our sport and his goofy antics. I noticed how effectively he (and the show) ignored some very strong elements of GT Live.

Alan DeCadanet. One of the best broadcasters on the face of this planet ... and he was again a poor choice for this show. Though he took a very good stab at covering and explaining the D1 portion, he didn't have enough time or room to do it justice. I think the casual viewer would still be left with a big misunderstanding of drifting as a sport. I get the impression that he was misdirected by the producer / director / event in how to cover the event. I don't think that he was given the opportunity to do the things that he does best or the opportunity to show our audience just how good a broadcaster he really is.

Yes - we know there were girls at the event - we have tons of pictures of them - and if we don't, we know how to carve them out of the net. Don't waste my time with tons of shots of them. Don't worry, my hormones work fine - I got five dates out of that event, one 'favor' and three trips to my favorite place for 'morning after' breakfasts.

The GT coverage? Ho boy ...

Flanders needs to buy a gun and clean it after drinking. For years, he's been the only thing I hate about the Long Beach Grand Prix. Maybe with Pook gone, he'll take 'his boy' with him.

The other guy needs to be taken back to the home where someone can check on his bedpan once an hour. If this guy is younger than 60, then my bad - I didn't catch that from his voice or from what he said.

Better coverage has been seen on VHS in small towns in the midwest covering dirt track stuff. Shees ...

And please ... don't yank yahoos out of the crowd who have nothing to say and try to interview them. If I wanted to know what those guys thought of the event, I would have asked them when I was there.

Some of the driver profiles was cool. The fact that the show did cover several of the events was cool. For the most part, it was pretty good. I just expected more from Speed and from the production company.

I'm sure that as time goes on, it'll get better - or, the wrong people will make the wrong decisions and will make the idea of putting things like this on TV so unattractive to sponsors that we never see it again.

Im pretty sure I heard that speed is airing full coverage o the GT race later this year.

And yeah, "Inside GT live" sucked. too short, couldnt cover everything. Needed to devote 2 hours to it... like they do to NASCAR every GOD DAMN DAY.

a lot of cars with on board rear cameras you don't see that in other racing groups.

Steve Magnante (the guy with the glasses) is an editor from Hot Rod Magazine and was for the longest time the host of Hot Rod Magazine TV. He's most famous for the "Bad Seed" project car - a 1978 Chevy Chevette powered by a Cadillac 500ci V8.

What he was doing covering GT Live I have no idea, but at least it seemed like he enjoyed himself.

De Cadenet also obviously enjoyed himself, but he's seriously much more appropriate for shows intended to cover history and information. The man is a wealth of information and fun anecdotes, but a story about driving a 3.8L Series 1 E-Type through Dorsetshire with Jackie Stewart has very little relevance to a JGTC exhibition race.

I'm hoping, though, that the G4/TechTV Formula Drift coverage is more complete.

I agree that the hosts of the show weren't the best but well..when you stop and think about it..who else that works for the speed network would be more suitable to take on covering that type of event?

They really dont have anyone relevant to the demographic of the audience that would watch GT Live..and if anyone says "kazzer" I will send a truck full of angry monkeys to your home.

The coverage of the actual racing wasn't so great ..maybe that could have been solved with more cameras at other positions on the track. The track is another thing..the course seemed kind of bland...the back straight seemed some what interesting but not really worthy of what a JGTC car could do.

I think laguna seca would have been better. Its a world famous track...its hosted drift events as well in the past..it seems perfect but for one reason or another it wasn't chosen..there are probably good reasons for that but who knows.

It definately should have been longer than an hour. If it was then we probably would have gotten the more extensive coverage that most of us feel was left out.

As for the anouncing..its the same story as the hosts..there isn't really any American announcer out there that could really suitably call the event ...Manabu Suzuki would have been perfect but his english isn't good enough ..so leave Flanders alone! Hes cool and I think he does a great job at the Long Beach Grand Prix..I've been going for the past 6 years and it just wouldn't be the same without him.

I agree completely. (I am thankful to all the promoters who brought JGTC over but here goes...) The track this year was pathetic. Bumpy, boring, and half oval. Take it to a real track like Laguna seca, watkins glen, road america, etc. And just cover it like ANY OTHER RACING SERIES. No need for special treatment like moronic hosts (not Alain de Cadenet), shots of vendor booth girls, and silly fan interviews. I remember when Speedvision used to show Touring car racing and JGTC all the time. The good old days before FOX.

the way Speed Channel handled this show was disapointing. It actually makes me glad that they are not doing Formula D. Speed Channel will have a whole show dedicated to a hickville track with trucks racing while towing boats or camper homes, but they cant give decent coverage for such a great event. the problem with speed channel is they think they know the demographics, but thier show was so generic.

the reason I like that G4 will be doing Formula D is based on thier sports coverage. Just briefly watching the Snowboarding event, I could see they knew what they were doing, the camera shots were excellent, the tempo of the show was good, the dialogue was good & the only thing bad was the host was annoying, although he did a good job segway-ing.

Research showed that the Spike TV demographic was 54% female. Another example of people who are paid to know what they're doing not knowing what they're doing. These people need to be kept away from drifting.

Also, it's 'segueing' - just thought you might like to know.

Okay, having seen the East vs West commentary by De Cadenet now, I can honestly say that drifting SHOULD have him on board. He's a knowledgable former racer with an absolute love for the automobile and completely lacking in the "Drift 4 Lyfe, yo!" attitude that some feel has to penetrate every import related event.

I'd like to see De Cadenet do play by play announcing and analysis for Formula Drift. He's still the 'effin man.
