Does anyone have any ideas for an exhaust. I was going to do a dual system coming out of the side skirts on each side, in front of the rear wheels. with no mufflers, just 2 resonators. lol.
i was gunna run that on my 510, but i test fitted it and i would of had major clearance issues, cause my 510 is pretty much laying on the ground its so low. but having it exit through the side skirts would address that problem. i say go for it, its gunna look and sound sick as fcuk.
The only reason formula d even has rules, and that they are constantly changing, is for one simple reason, Money. Thats the only reason formula d is doing anything is so you have to spend more money. They think of it as if you dont have the money to make your car comply, then you are not a good drifter that has sponsors to pay for it.
So basically they make it as expensive as possible, so only the pros can afford to do it.
what extremely blurred logic and extreme lack of reality created this statement?
I wasnt specifically speaking about the motor rule. I was refering to the constantly changing rules throughout the season. Such as the ever changing roll cage rules that would have req the car owners to cut the cage out, and build a new one with material that is only a little bit thicker. Also outlawing chomoly cages for next season. Not to mention on my old car when we did the fuel cell the rules stated any sfi fuel cell was legal, then after round 1 they changed their mind and said the cell had to have a liner, one way breather ect. Also the rule that req dual door bars if the inner skin is removed. Not like that little piece of sheet metal would have made any difference. Etc.
WOW spend all that money and prep work to make the car nice then go weld the diff?
Max
Max you being in norcal should know about the welded diffs up here called weld locd. I make those diffs. I have welded over 100 diffs and none have come apart. Mostly everyone at nor cal events is running them.
I wanna sseeeeeee..did you guys already take it apart again for paint?
You could have at least shot some test drive videos first! you insensitive bastards! we have needs!...ok so that was a little over the top but that doesn't change the fact that we are all anxious to see the end result of the project!

No. We are just mocking the car up right now to test fit everything before paint. That process should be complete this week.

That is absolutely not why we make rules. First of all our rules are not constantly changing. We have had a pretty uniform rulebook for the past two years. We did update the roll cage and that was a safetly thing and in the best interest of all competitors. Secondly, the rule books to this point have been focused on safety and not modification restrictions. It has been wide open to where you could pretty much do whatever you wanted, spend as much as you want... and may people did just that. Additionally, we are looking into implementing modification restrictions for the exact opposite of what you are saying. We put restrictions in place to help reduce cost and to give everyone the same rule book to work with so as each driver and team has to be creative to find their competitive edge within the confines of stated rules. Such is the state of every major motorsport. That was one of the main reasons we did not allow the Kumho red smoke tires. Increased cost = less money for teams = less teams sponsored.
In rare cases, such as yours, you have found a way to cheaply create power, but in most cases this kind of grey area creates a wide open area for the ability to create very expensive, huge competitive advantages.
Like you said, "if you don't have the money to make your car comply then you are not a good drifter." That is pretty ridiculous. You could come to the event with a stock everything and have the right safety specs and be able to compete.
We have not made any rulings yet on the same manufacturer motor for vehicles yet but it has definitely been brought up. What you are doing is creative and really cool, but to accuse us of doing things to keep the less funded teams out of FD is down right innaccurate and reckless of you to make such an accusation. Our focus for the rule book is to keep everyone overly safe and to keep costs down and creating a clear and concise rule book with little area of debate. We want the teams to be as flush with cash as possible so they can travel, sponsor new drivers, promote drivers and be able to be involved in the series without killing their pocket books. This is also one of the reasons why we have increased the events in number by only 1 or 2 events per year because we know this is what the majority of the teams can sustain. We could easily do 10 or more events per year but if 50 percent of our teams went broke traveling to each event doing it, we have no series and there is no point to that.
FD i completely agree with your statement. FD has put drifting on the map, and has created so much interest for the sport. I completely agree with the idea of having everything uniform as possible, so that way people with a lightly modded s13 wont be going up against a tube chassis viper. My only concern was the few rule changes you guys made throughout the season. I do understand the fuel cell rule, door bar rule, and cage rule. It just did not serve me well because when i completed my car this season i had to cut the cage out, change the fuel cell, etc. I dont mean to hate on formula d at all, and that was not my intention.
I was just voicing my opinion, and between alot of the amature drifters that is also a common feeling. Im thankfull that you finally put this out in the open and cleared this up for all of us.
I say more pictures of this Julie!!! Hottness!!!!!
Awesome car BTW, cant wait to see it done.
Ive always wanted to do some type of motor swap in an FD chassis, im very interested in how it turns out. And would be interested in how much you spent on the whole project.
I have an LS6 from a ZO6 that my dad wrecked and bought the car from the insurance company, so im looking for something to put that in.
Sometimes things that happen with the series happen for reasons out of our control too. As you may or may not know it is becoming extremely more and more difficult to insure the events. Insurance companies are seeing videos of other events where cars are drifting within inches of k-rail with people standing right behind it. Because of this they have come down hard on us, making us tighten our safety regs and making life in general much more difficult. We do not publicly announce things like this with insurance companies most times. We know the frustration but like I said earlier things sometimes go out of our control.
That's a pretty-cool motor swap. It'll be interesting to see how this stacks up against Yamamoto's SR20 RX7. As for the LS1, great powerplant. Lightweight, reliable, and 500hp is just a head/intake/cam swap away.
Exhaust-wise, can't go wrong with the classic dual-exhaust/h-pipe/mufflers combo. I'd love to see the looks on people's faces when they see an FD with side-exits fire-up, expecting it to sound like a rotary and then they hear the LS1 rumbling.
