Correct...zero pull here.
Once again, for this movie even more so than the last movie, Universal has hired a crew based on politics and certain individuals perceived abilities to work within a budget...after all, they are a corporation striving for a (dare I say) profitable balance sheet.
Yes, I know all about the Skyline's heritage and the fan base who is the epitome of a purist.
The tech advisor for this picture is Toshi Hayame, formerly of Apex. Forward your hate mail accordingly.
In Toshi's defense, let me add that my first hand experiences tell me that Toshi probably did all he could to counsel otherwise...in the end, the old white guys pulling the purse strings and running the Transpo department disagreed. It's their movie and if it's profitable in the end, they will (once again) argue that we tuners were WRONG in striving for technical accuracy.
Do with that information what you will...it's hard to argue with the success of a $500 million dollar plus franchise....somebody's watching these movies.
Not any of us though, right *wink*wink*

If you would take the time to read you would see that most of my post is about the JDM aspect of the film. Thanks for your response.
Dennis McCarthy is the main Transpo guy, so he may have had some influence. The UPM is Gary Word. He too might have had some influence.
Neil Moritz, the Producer (who is really acting more like a Director on this picture, judging from what I've seen) knows a great deal about this market and is definitely a visionary guy. He may have had some influence here and I would't doubt that it went down like this:
Neil:
"We need to run an American car in this gig. "
Toshi:
"I think you should reconsider"
Misc Transpo Guy:
"Hey, how bout an Eleanor Mustang?"
Toshi:
"I think you should reconsider"
Neil:
"We could make it work if we did something insane like drop a Skyline motor in it."
Toshi:
"Um, I think that you should reconsider."
Neil and Transpo team:
"Heck yeah, that's the only way to make an Eleanor cool to this crowd!"
Of course, this is all pure speculation.
As I said, we all need to remember that this team has two successful movies under their belt targeting to this audience. Neil is a smart guy, trust me.
If the subject matter offends some, perhaps they should skip this one.
I'm betting that this one would be mildly successful once again, despite any perceived shortcomings by hardcore purists. Like all of you, I hope that it will have a positive influence on drifting and the tuner community as a whole.
These are just my opinions, of course.

technical accuracy is less than entertainment
tuners/enthusiast is less than mainstream crowd
thats how it is...
enterainment/mainstream = over 500 million dollars for the first two movies.
cant wait to see the drift bible or option dvds do that much...
This has been brought up soo many times.. Its hollywood, the city thats known for its fictional movies, not its documentories. THEY ARE IN IT FOR THE MONEY...Props to them for bringing in actual drivers/drifters and real cars, but hollywood is not going to make a semi-documentory. Skyline motor in a mustang, sounds like crap to anyone that knows anything about cars, but it sounds cool to the hundreds of thousands of people that are "entertained" by it. Like swifty says, wait to see how it falls into the plot of the movie..
As crazy as it sounds, the other FnF movies that came out actually helped the aftermarket automotive industry. More people bought more parts, regardless of if they are true tuners/enthusiasts. Parts are more readily available now. Companies are able to produce more parts for cheaper now (mass production=cheaper costs). Yes, theres gonna be idiots that are gonna ruin it on the road, thats expected. Best thing to do is keep it on the track.
say this a couple of times...its for the ENTERTAINMENT value...
just my 2 cents...

these movies are just as accurate as any other movie.
Example: Mighty Ducks.
As someone who grew up playing hockey, and later went on to referee at all competitive levels, anyone and everyone knows that the movie is full of hollywood flare. I can remember seeing defensemen in my league wind up for a 'knuckle puck' thinking that it was some crazy innovation which made their shot more accurate and more likely to score. Or even seeing a goalie try and come up and take a slapshot from the blue line (in hockey, the second the goaltender touches the puck or otherwise participates in play on the other side of center ice, the play is immediately blown dead).
but, of course, if they saw it in a movie, it must be true
I won't lie. I'll watch the movie. Even with all of its' technical inaccuracies. Why? because I'd rather watch a fantasy drifting movie than some love story staring Mandy Moore

They also allowed the US Transpo department to actually import over a bunch of vehicles ranging from scooters and street bikes to sushi delivery vehicles. Cool stuff, definitely will lend to the authenticity. Kudos to them for spending the money to add these special little touches.

about the rb powered skyline. the idea acctualy came from japan. i read about a year ago in modified magazine when they were first looking for cars for the movie. the saw a mustang at some show with an rb26 in it pushing like over 1000hp built by some small tuning shop in japan some where. so technicaly this idea is very jdm. im not sure wut issue it was but i will be looking for in so you all can check it out.

There are lots of cool background and other drifting cars. Tons of right hand drive cars they imported to the US. Quadruplicates and more of some cars. It will be if nothing else, entertaining.
Toshi is a technical advisor, but only so much he can do. It has to appeal to the masses, and its not a documentary.
The RB in a Mustang, when I first thought of it, I thought how stupid it sounded. After a while, it got to being interesting. It will make people talk about the movie and the car. It will irritate people to no end, but hey its press and "buzz" about the movie.
There is a story that goes along with why the RB is in the Mustang. A little non believeable, but movie magic.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ what he said
also on the whole Mustang/RB swap.... it intrigues me too
I have a friend who runs a tuning shop..... his daily is a 400hp AWD talon
he works on mostly imports.....some drift stuff
his project car??????? a 73 firebird .... and he wants to put a 2jz-gte in it
why? because the motor is damn near indestructible.....
I like the idea...... old school metal with a reliable heart!
just my thoughts...............
