I'll just be happy with seeing the cool street/touge drifting sequences unlike those retarded computer graphic drifts in 2 fast 2 furious. Everything else will just be stuff to make fun of. Me and my friends still skip through the second and first movie and pick them apart because its fun to point out all the mistakes in them.

but if you sit back and enjoy the story for what it is - a fictional movie which overdramatizes a sport or 'group of enthusiasts' in this case - then it can be enjoyable.

We all know the people who talk *Censored**Censored**Censored**Censored*, will be first in line to give up their 10 bucks to see the movie.
If you cant understand the difference between a movie and documentary then you need to focus on other things besides 'Drifting'. Pick up 'Drift Bible' if you wanna learn, watch the movie if you just want entertainment...cause thats all its there for: Nothin more, nothin less
As far as making the movie goes, I'll chime in and say that its hard f'ing work!! looooong days....with very good catered food tho
I was there from seattle spending 12+ hour days working on the set for a week or so (in character and got to drive in a scene or 2 ) It's not easy work, but its very easy to criticize....go figure.
Maybe we're preaching to kids who dont understand fact from fiction / Movies from reality.
Trust me folks: They made the movie for you to watch and have fun....It's NOT Drifting 101. The sooner you realize that, the better we'll all be.
Thank you, Emerald

you'll still go outta your way to see it.
Sum People WANT this movie to be bad to back up all of the negative attitude they have. Considering you havent seen any of it and only know who stars in it, isnt really a valid reason to bash the movie BEFORE it comes out.
People complain about the RB in a Mustang...IF Team FALKEN decided to drop in an RB into their Mustang you guys would be jockin'...dont even front like its not true either.
One of my favorite cars R'now is the FD with LS1 engine...that thing is bad *Censored**Censored**Censored*! Oh, the Fortune cars from the movie as well
The second comment is why would bow-wow be in Japan? he's an actor (with movie/TV credits under his belt) He's not 'Bow wow' in the movie. he's a 'character' like everyone else.
Who do you think would make a better 'fit' for this movie?
Anyways, you'll pay your money or risk jail time downloading the movie...either way, if its good or bad....PEOPLE WILL WATCH IT

Were you working on the film to criticize it? better actor than Bow wow? have you seen him act or is it because he's a rapper? or?? is Lucas Black a better actor?
They came here looking for REAL cars, by REAL people to be used in the film.
If people dont like the cars, they had more than enough chances to make sure the cars were portrayed right.
besides the main cars, they used cars from us normal folks. You can find the owners of all the cars on forums such as this if you wanna talk about the 'ugly' cars in the movie.
Please enlighten us with your opinions....
- with a better plot and state why this one is bad
- tell us how bad the production is and how you'd make it better
- car choices and state why you dont like the current cars
- a list of actors that would be a better fit and why the current ones dont work for you.
jus for shits n giggles
Anybody that bails out on Drifting because of a movie should never have gotten into it in the first place.

After the first two movies I think the majority of people here realize that this isn't going to be a documentry..(at least I hope they do)..
However certain elements of the film sort of represent our culture in a bad light such as being tied to a criminal element (the yakuza).
Thats the part that I think gets people the most..like you stated in your post they came to us looking for REAL cars and REAL people..so most of us got the impression that they were, for the most part, going to portray our culture in a REAL light..which isn't really the case here.
They took the REAL cars and the REAL people and used them as elements for a really far fetched story that misrepresents what we're about. Yes it's a movie..but its understandable how some of the people here can take that sort of thing as an insult.
While I don't have a response to all the points you brought up I feel that I can address at least a few of them..
first is "Why not Bow Wow?" for the most part you stated that bow wow is an actor playing a part...yeah..but that isn't really enough to justify his place in the story. Also..I've seen parts of "Roll Bounce" and hes not that great of an actor..
They were able to come up with an excuse as to why Lucas Black's character would be in Japan (the whole military family thing)..but unless they have Bow wow's character in the same situation then why would he be in Japan?? When it was first announced that Bow Wow would play a part in the movie it was said that his character is playing a young man trying to get discovered as a rapper...
That makes absolutely no sense if thats what his character is..first of all why would a young American kid whos trying to be a rapper go to Japan to do so?? Secondly why is someone whos trying to make it as a rapper be so involved in the underground drift scene?? These are the kinds of questions that pop up into peoples minds here when they think about Bow Wow being in this movie.
The truth is simply that since they really dont have any easily recgonizable names in this movie they stuck with the formula that worked in the first two by adding a well known rap artist to get peoples attention. Especially since Bow Wow is young and his name alone is going to attract droves of horny teenie bopper girls to the theaters CHA-CHING!
..So in that respect it was very smart of them to add someone like Bow Wow to the cast but unless they can come up with a damn good reason for him to be there..its sort of detrimental to the story.
And on top of all that..Bow Wow character's name in the movie is "Twinkie"...Twinkie!!...WTF????!!
To your challenge of coming up with a better plot and why the current plot is bad I think I can address that too..
The current plot is bad for the following reason: The addition of a criminal element which is just the same thing that was done in the first two movies but applied to a different part of the motorsport culture....you can still come up with a good plot without having to link what we like to do to the F'ing mafia!!
And if they absolutely HAD to incorporate the whole organized crime element into the story...the original plot they had which involved Vin Diesel's character was MUCH MUCH MUCH better than this one! It was only changed because they couldn't pay the dude enough money to come back.
It just seems so stupid that the character "Sean" would go out for his first time drifting and just HAPPENS to challenge the "Drift King" and the "Drift King" just HAPPENS to have ties to the yakuza..and then Sean falls for a girl who just HAPPENS to be the "Drift King's" girlfriend....drifter or not..that plot just seems pretty lame..
What would I have done?..Well I would have kept the whole backstory of Sean being a troubled kid and going to Japan to live with his father..but from there I would have given it a "Rocky" type of story..perhaps..Sean discovers drifting and is compelled by it so while trying to adjust to his new life in Japan..he works hard to try and get a car and builds it up with the help of new friends he makes in Japan and tries to compete in D1 but have certain factors playing against him..like shops and other potential sponsors shunning him or laughing in his face because he is a "gajin" and having the other more experience drifters give him a hard time for the same reasons.
Perhaps making the "Vilian" be a fictional D1 driver whos one of the best but has a chip on his shoulder against this new kid coming in on his turf..almost similar to the plot in the movie "Driven" Basically making the story all about this underdog kid who got into drifting as a way to keep out of trouble whos trying his hardest against all odds to compete in a legit way against the big dogs.
So theres my response to the issue of the plot..
As far as who would be better choices for the actors?
...Well when I first heard about the plot of having an American kid being shipped off to Japan..even though they were asking for someone of any race (except asian) for the role of "Sean" I still knew that they were going to end up picking a white boy..and if I had to pick a white kid to play that part ..instead of Lucas Black..I would have picked that guy from the O.C. ..he fits the "tough trouble maker" role much better and hes WAY better known than Black is ..dont get me wrong Black is a good actor..he was cool in Jarhead but he wouldn't have been my first choice if I was the casting director for this movie.
I can't say too much about the other actors that will be in this movie..but maybe thats a point within itself...no one knows who the heck any of those people are..Im pretty sure the majority of people didn't even know who Lucas Black is..Bow Wow is hands down the most easily recgonizable person in the whole film..something else to think about when you wonder why people are so easily ready to bash this movie.
On the issue of the production value..I don't really think that most of the people here know the definintion of production value the way that you and I do.
I was on set myself and they really went all out to make things look authentic..the wardrobe..the cars that were casted...heck they even brought over vending machines from Japan that you'd commonly see if you were walking down a city street in Tokyo..it was awesome to see.
Bad story or not they are spending a lot of money to at least get the right look and feel of Japan..but you'd only know that if you went to the set..remember people Production is everything that goes into "building" the movie..the sets..the lighting..the wardrobe..the cameras..the extras.. all of that..and Universal did a really good job in that department.
As far as the cars used in the film..the cars that they CASTED were spot on for the most part..they were authentic..and they even bought the Veilside NSX and RX-7 from Japan..granted they aren't drift cars..it still shows the lengths that Universal went to get authenticity.
HOWEVER..some of the cars that were brought in by production..like those weird three wheel motorcycles..and the monstrosity of a Rice Mobile that they built for Bow Wow's character...they were absolute crap.
I would have totally nixed those stupid motorcycle things..and gave Bow Wow's character a VIP style van..those are more relevant to current Japanese car culture and look a lot better than the booger green rice mobile that they have him driving in the parking lot scene.
So I hope all of that helps level the playing field here..
As far as myself..even though I pointed out what I feel are flaws in the story and approach of the movie..Im still going to watch it because I know its just a movie and Im honestly not going to take it that seriously..Im hoping that it will be funny like the second movie was Tyreese was comedy in that one "sit on it fonzie!...*Censored**Censored**Censored*.."
And DriftGirl..I know you say that we're all going to watch the movie anyway..and you're right..but I think the main point that everyone who bashes this movie is trying to make..is that pretty much 99.99% of the people here ARE NOT GOING TO WATCH THIS MOVIE FOR THE STORY AND/OR PLOT..
Everyone here is going to watch the movie to see the drifting..and the cars that they know..(possibly their own cars or cars that belong to friends of theirs whom were casted)..try to figure out which stunt driving scenes were done by Rhys..and which ones were done by Sam and listen to the dialoge for technical inaccuracies that we all can quote to joke around with our friends..
"MoTec system exhaust!" and "My pockets aint empty cuh!!" are played out...we need new ones!Last edited by MonkeySlide; 03-12-2006, 06:49 PM.
