Reliable? my 92 240sx is very reliable. its got 180k on the clock and has only needed a fuel injector replaced.

New doesnt nessisarly equal reliable, and old doesnt nessisarly equal not reliable.

you can try a low millage 97/98 S14, thats pretty close to your year range.

You can try a mustang or a camaro from those years. you should be able to get one for your price range. Also you could look at the v6 models. If your not drag racing with it. There are two f body guys here who have already posted. who im sure you could ask advice for. they both seem very friendly.

i like the idea of the q45. It will be harder to drift with. but its deffenately do able. especialy with some choices mods. Plus they have that huge, relatively speaking, 4.5 liter v8, i doubt there much in the way of performance mods for it. but when you got serious a custom twin turbo system would freakin haul. plus i believe they share the same differential and hub pattern as the 240sx so 240 upgrades will probably work with some modification.

Also you would be in the situation later down the road to swap in a 300zx twin turbo motor. or a skyline motor. maybe with that 3 liter bottom end. Or i like i said. twin turbo kit. I really dont know whats out there. but it would be Different. Beasides you could strip it down and get its weight down abit.

but honestly even going that route your better off just to buy an older cheaper lighter infinity.

good luck. And you may have to come to the realization that there wont be a good drift car. that is also a big luxurious winter car.

This is why I've thought along the more unusual lines of full-sized rwd cars: Infinity Q45, Mazda 929, older Volvos, BMWs. Good drift cars? Eh.
LOL i was down at super autobacs yesterday again. They had the Top secret S15 and 180sx, as long as Ueo's revolver 86 display, they said ueo was there the previous day signing things and taking pictures with the car. I desperately wish i could of got ahold of my digital camera. Those cars are in alot of contrast with what you want.

But i supose thats alright. Drifting is all about drifting what you want. whatever you get figure out its weaknesses and try to improve on it.

i would go with the audi. my mom has a 01 s4 wagon. i have had it out on the track, and that thing can rip. i also took it skiing, and it was really fun in a huge lot with tons of snow. just wished she would have gotten the 6 speed. but a A4, 1.8T would be good. you can easily mod that, popular car, so thats not a problem. its new. very good reliability. AWD, can get through snow. 4 doors, enough space, you could even get a wagon for more space. that seems to fit your specs pretty good. thats where i would put my money. good luck.

Yeah, the Q45's a big car, but I'm used to big cars. I just want the weight pretty even, 50/50 front/rear that is. I was thinking about the J30 as well, a little smaller/lighter. Still it's hard to find one close by or for a price that's remotely reasonable.

Mustang? I'm not a Ford guy. I think they're cheap, never liked what I've seen. Yep, there's Camaros.

I'm just seeing what oddities you guys can come up with. I've looked in the past, but I'm sure there's others that haven't been mentioned. As a note, I'm in the United States, so try to stay with what's available here.

I'm somewhat focused on reliable cars: Honda/Acura, Toyota/Lexus, Subaru, Mazda. These are all very reliable cars. My primary concern is having a daily driver. I'm just a guy who likes a little luxury. That's when I start thinking Q45 and such. It's tough to get some of the finer things in life from the smaller cars. BMW's an option here, M3 maybe, but price is a concern. The Lexus SC300/400 is an option as well.

I'd like to try to stay with a manual tranny, something the Q45 doesn't provide. The Mazda 929 does. The J30 might. 4wd is iffy. I like it for normal driving and especially for winter, but I like rwd better for drifting.

I may focus on 4wd for winter. There's Subaru and Audi. Then there's smaller cars, the AWD Eagle Talon or even the Isuzu Impulse AWD, both turbos, wee! Reliable? No. It would probably be tough to find one that wasn't thrashed.

Anybody think of anything else? Any odd years when a manufacturer made a awd version of a car? Any hidden treasures?

                  the suzuki Gand vitara V6

seriously tho... i used to work at a mitsu/suzuki dealership and those things have more than enough torque to get the rear end to step out with just just application of throttle... tho i don't know if they made a MT version and drifting with an auto does not work so well. plus the short wheelbase means your more likly to over rotate... but thats my suggestion
