Exposure is exposure. As a sponsor, I would want at least my So Cal based teams to participate. Any additional cost would be far outweighted by the additional eyeballs on your logo at the event, not to mention that the D1GP events will be aired on Fox all over the country. Sponsors want good competition. The best against the best. Good competition spurs interest from the fans and the media which leads to more exposure.

Competition is a good thing. It makes everyone push the limits to try and excel. The fans are the true winners if D1 and FD push each other to put on better events and the fans are the true winners if the best drifters compete and push each other.

I'll be at the Atlanta Motor Speedway by Wednesday night/Thursday morning.

FD Drivers probably won't participate in the upcoming D1 because it's "too close" to the next FD event...meaning that if ANYTHING were to happen to their main competition car, it would definately implicate their schedule for Atlanta. So, the wise thing to do here is to maybe display at D1, but not compete. I can see an FD driver competing if and ONLY if they have a spare car to use.
I'd hate for you to take that long trip and arrive at the wrong track.

i guess i should have been more clear. it will be on Fox as a syndicate deal. my statement about all over the country was meant that the events would be aired in multiple markets. network or syndicate, that is still great exposure. it's doesn't matter what time it will air because there are always people watching tv. how many time have i wanted to order the "Pool My Way" video featuring Minnesota Fats at 2am.

Assuming this is Genius Tools with a name like Genius then can you answer why all of the drivers you sponsor in Formula D are not attending D1 this weekend?

Hey Sweetcarz02 --- I was thinking the same exact thing about our "genius." Even though he was siding with me on my opinions, I felt something wasn't right considering he had only a few posts. Once he started posting about "networks and syndications" I began to think he knew a little too much about the insider details. The "genius" hasn't posted in a while either.

I am going to assume that your post was not meant to be confrontational even though it does come across that way. You are not going to bait me into bashing FD, D1, our drivers or their team owners. I have too much respect for the sport and the people involved.

First, let me start of by saying that Genius Tools is proud to sponsor JR, Chris Forsberg Ryan Tuerck, Rhys Millen, Stephan Verdier and Joon Maeng. However, Genius Tools is NOT the primary sponsor of these drivers nor is it the team owner of any of the teams and hence, we do not have final say in what events they and their team owners decide to compete in. Many factors go into deciding whether or not a team is going to enter events such as finances, logistics and scheduling conflicts. Sometimes all interests cannot be met.

I know that people on the forum love to read about conspiracy theories. When Genius Tools decided to become involved in D1, it was a business decision. Pure and simple. Genius Tools is a global company that does business in over 75 countries around the world. When we were approached by D1, we saw an amazing opportunity to reach not just to the US drifting community, but to reach the automotive community in other countries. D1 has tremendous international exposure and our involvement in D1 will allow us to cross market in different geographic areas outside the US. Since drifting is starting to become so popular globally, this is a great chance for us to become involved with the other half of the world’s best drifters.

Additionally, based on the television package and pre-event exposure, getting involved with D1 was an easy decision. Sponsors are looking for “impressions” and D1 is offering a product that is attractive. It will offer impressions not just to the thousands at the event, but to hundreds of thousands of radio listeners and the television viewers. To your point about sponsors worrying about their cars getting damaged so close to an event. I think that most sponsors would step up with help if their drivers damaged their car close to an event, especially if they damaged it while running another event that gave them exposure. I think that anyone who is afraid that their job hinges on the possibility that a driver they sponsor may miss one event because they damaged the car at another competition probably has more to problems than trying to explain why their driver missed one event.

I spoke to all of our drivers prior to making a decision on getting involved with D1. They were all honest and up front with their input. However, their participation was not a major factor in whether Genius Tools was going to be involved with D1 or not.

In my ideal world, all of our drivers would participate in D1. But the decision was made based on none of them participating. We are looking to have a fun-filled event on Saturday. One that all of the drifting fans will enjoy. I think it is going to be sunny and 75 in Anaheim so at least the weather will be nice.

To all the fans. Stop by the booth and check out our tools. Enter for a chance to win a tools set that you can use on track day.

I figured that using the moniker "genius" should have been pretty obvious to the forum who I am or associated with and the reason that i don't post that often is that I do have a few businesses that i run on a daily basis. Hope that this addresses your conspiracy theories.

Actually, using "genius" as a screen name wasn't too obvious. It's just most guys that have a vested interest in any of this usually clearly state who they are. For example, Jim@FD, Ryan@FD, Ali's Drift Garage (Ali from D1), and D1GPUSA (Rich Goodwin).

As I stated, in my post, you and I were expressing the same opinions with regards to FD and D1 competing each other. I hope you didn't jeopardize anything by expressing those sentiments with D1.

From my recollection from previous threads, FD offered D1 a chance to compete with one another last year in the Red Bull event. FD jumped through every flaming loop D1 set out in order to get a deal done, but to no avail. D1's request were just too much to accomodate, so it didn't happen. FD has openly expressed an interest in having a true World Championship.

However, with the new D1 management, something could possibly work in the future. Since you have the "in" with both D1 and FD, you can lead the D1 and FD "UNITY" event petition I mentioned starting in a previous post. What do you think?

With regards to posting, I have this forum on wherever I go. This keeps the day from getting too boring. Try it out. lol

Genius Tools would be happy to help in any way we can to get a unity event to happen.

birdie in a tree told me that the entry got cut in half because it was too fast for the rest of the course. Now it's a mid 3rd gear entry...

and it's WAY smaller than Long Beach. So much for the 'biggest build ever'...

Would that "birdie in a tree" actually be a person in an adjacent office building with a very good vantage point from their window? Hahahha....yeah, I've seen some pictures posted online already about how the build is going on. Everything, however, still "remains to be seen".

nope. It was actually a birdie with a trailer that was at the venue today. Birdies in office buildings are too busy working to call little ol' me.
