They didn't pick a amateur driver and say

"oh well now lets give him a viper, but he cant drive gt500 so we have to make the viper go into the gt300 class."

They had the car, decided that the viper would do best in the gt300 class even with weight restrictions, and then used a amateur driver. The driver isn't what is keeping the viper in the gt300 class. That's retarded. If they wanted to go into the gt500 class, they would drop the amateur driver.

I've never should've said the driver (that's my fault). I was just trying to make it simple to explain.

Anyways. It's the teams decision to enter whatever class they want to. I just said the Driver because the driver is part of the team. Depending on their budget and R&D. They can only afford a GT300 class car. Beside anyone can move up to the 500class without a problem, as long they have the money. But in order for the team (or driver) to race, they have to register. So... SInce they can only afford GT300 R&D. They will register the driver under the 300class.

Oh by the way. I attached a desktop pic of the Xanavi Skyline. This cars exceeds 500hp. So they get penalize by air restriction and weight handicap. If you see the weight #'s behind the driver (i forgot his name ) helmet you'll see how much they penalize him. (that's a 50,30&10KG) handicap.

I think its because if they pushed the Viper to its limits against the other GT500 class cars, the Viper wouldnt last long... it would overheat and die! muhahahahhaha

heh, wouldn't surprise me, vipers are known for their cooling problems

So in other words the cars aren't necessarily 300 and 500 hp, they just have set power to weight ratios? They should try a 5.7L supercharged Hemi for better weight distribution but the proven V-10 wouldn't be a bad way to go either. And I would think since this is a factory spec-racer that they'd have addressed any cooling problems.

not sure about the other problems, but I know that the Skyline GT-R uses a VQ35DETT because the engine can be pushed back farther than the RB26DETT can so it handels better(take a look at Top Secret's VQ powered GT-R). and the JGTC Supra uses a 3S-GTE because of the same reasons for the GT-R and the 3S revs higher than the 2JZ(no s h i t ) which allows a more flexible powerband(take a look at Top Secret's 3S-GTE powered Supra). that is what I heard and it makes logical sense to me.

                  rock.

Yes, the V design of the vq allows better balance over the inline motor, and the 3s can make as much power as needed, and weighs a whole lot less. The VQ is lighter the then RB too.

youre right except that the supra uses the v-8 now instead of the 3sgte

its n/a, they didnt want any turbo lag, and its pretty easy to make 500hp from a v8.

the v8 still sits closer to the firewall the the 6, remember, its only 4 cyl long.
