Actually it was developed by Genki and Sammy studios is who dropped the first one. Kaido 2 is actually (from what I have read) still in the works to be brought out over here. With the success of D1 and Drifting in general, they will more than likely develope it for the American market. They would be stupid not too.
That game is basically a cross between GT3 and Tokyo Extreme racer 3. You can change settings in your car like GT3 and you can upgrade body parts and wings and such like TXR3. There also seems to be a message board/BBS that you can get on and talk to people. #2 in this series is pretty sweet as you can tell from the videos. The opening movie for #1 is still my all time favorite video game movie, The whole flower petal thing they have going on is so Japanese my eyes started to squint. Awesome. If any of you haven't seen it, hit up Google and find it. Well worth the search.
As for getting a copy now, we can all wish in one hand and go on Ebay and get a Japanese playstation and the game in the other and see which one fills up faster.

it says hte "BBS" and "E-Mail" are just in the game.

yeah it's beautiful. I like the #2 op movie though.
looks like they have a good sence of beauty.
and you are right, there are lots of japanese traditional motif
in the movie.
I watched a demo in a store. it was that beautiful.
tried to play the game, found out I can't drive with buttons and keys.
