This is a very bad idea. In fact this idea is the worst idea in a very long histoy of bad ideas.
Let me take you all back a bit, remember afew years ago before the fast and furious movies, you rarely see any ricers, and their bakersfield conversions.. (bakersfield conversion= exhaust tip, big a$$ wing, body kit, maybe paint.(NO engine mods at all)) Now you may have your own name for that one but anyways. After these movies came out what do you see. A $hit load of these ricers and their bakersfield conversions.
Now think of this show. You will see all these ricers dipping there hands into this new thing that they see on tv. One quick question, where do you drift at? In your neighborhood, on a street in town, or in somewhat of a secluded area somewhere. Will they be safe about it or will they be trying to pull this crap off in busy streets, parking lots, or neighborhoods. YES they will. Will they do it at a safe time, like at night. Hell no.

Well im done with my rant for now...

heh offically we only drift on the track.... lol

We have discussed the problems of media coverage of drifting a few times before. Basicly any time its exposed kids will try to do it.

The only advantage drifting has is its hard to learn. A kid cant just rush out in his integra and drift. Most the guys will get frustrated and go back to drag racing and car shows and leave drifting alone, They will probably crash too. So at least they wont be in it very long.

However i believe drifting already has alot of coverage all the import magazines have been covering it and other magazines like grass roots motorspots and such have also had drifting articals. I think everyone who will know about it probably already does. So i think we will have to wait and see how the television show turns out.

I also forgot to mention Spike TV's first attempt at getting into the "import scene",Super2ner TV failed(like their channel frequently does). They took it off the air after roughly a year. This new show is Spike TV's second attempt to break into the "import scene",expect the same garbage that you've come to know from MTV,I mean Spike TV.Just looking at Spike's track record, the only shows to ever survive the changes were Star Trek,WWE Raw,and Real TV.On that alone I don't see a future for this show, but I'm not complaining.I'd rather watch Monster Garage and American Chopper,at least those shows are original.

yea, makes you really wonder about the longevity if everyone jumps in right at once. I've wondered about that myself, especialy blacklisting all the cars we'll inevitably use to do this with. Won't be long before you'll never see a S13 or a S14 or a AE86 (and possibly domestics as well) if they get profiled, which they are to some extent already.

Not looking forward to things changing...but hopefully the difficulty and the setup required to do it will weed out the bad ones fast. anyone can make a car look good, anyone can make a car go straight, but canyons and drifting are things that require real skill to do. Just waiting for the cops to start taking over canyon roads though. Can't drive up one without getting pulled over if you have anything outside of a honda accord, Factory Fresh.

Yes,but that wasn't the point I was trying to make. The point I was trying to make was that Spike TV will make or break anything to try and make some quick cash.An example of this,is Super2ner TV,which was their attempt to sell out to what they called the "import scene".All those other shows you listed are great, and very detailed, but they don't specialize in imports like Super2ner TV.I was also trying to reinforce my point by pointing out that Spike TV and made and broke the show in one year(took it off the air).I also pointed out their track record, and company history to reinforce all of this. It's blatantly clear that this show won't have a history,or a good one at all.Expect to see some Fast and Furious type garbage.

                      ah

I live in GA, and this is all crap...no one really knows drifting here...i like it how it is right now, a few people at my highschool actually own nissans and i've seen them drift...and they are mainly seniors...

this is all garbage...Magnaflow = hick
I'll be damned if hicks get into drifting because of that damned show...they'll be sitting back beating there wives half to death watching horsepower tv and Trucks or whatever and then drifting will show up and they'll see alot of smoke and get interested...they'll see fine asian chicks and get even more interested..billy bob and the rest of Moes kids will come into the room and watch drifting...soon it will spread...then kids will get cars...attempt to drift and crash....drifting will be looked at almost negatively...cops will be all over the place...they will now even know what drifting is if they already havent...

                      underground drifting..is no longer underground...

Man am I ever tired of hearing people complain about any coverage or tv show that does anything with Drifting. What do you people think? That Drifting should stay in the "undergound" and that no one should see any Drifting anywhere? Well let me break this down to you.

If there was no coverage on Drifting then you
                        A. wouldn't have D1 in the USA
                        B. These so called sucky companies that everyone complains about, APC for one, eren't around you wouldn't see any Drifting teams on US soil.
                        C. If not for Fast and Furious, American companies would not have caught onto the Import scene as fast (or as furiously) and many of the parts that you hold so dear would not have either been made or been imported except at an inflated price.
                        D. The Aftermarket would not be near the size it is now, cars that are being brought over now that would never have been over and all sorts of stuff that you don't give a second thought to would not be happening.

So whenever you start to thumb your noses at TV coverage, TV shows, Ricers or anything else that you see as "mainstream" think about it cause without ANY of those, you wouldn't have your scene.

Without TV coverage and no shows = no products
Without big companies and sponsers = no events
Without Ricers = no shops to do your work.

Cause believe it or not, it aint you die hards and hardcores that keep shops in business. It's Bobby Bo Ricer wih his Honda Civic and Jermy Jo Neon and his CRX that keep all your shops in business.

So give it a rest and enjoy your sport.

Oh and big fat news flash to the non educated, the cops ALREADY have a negative outlook on Drifting. Hell man they have a negative outlook on ANY motorsport that flows over onto the street. I know cops that love Drifting but they will bust your rear end wide open they see you doing it on the streets. So no matter who trys it and wrecks, the opnion is still the same. A TV show isn' going to influence that.

It's not really about that,Spike's just not stable.Nothing lasts on that channel. If it were on a different channel, then yeah, sure. But Spike and MTV have really been going overboard as of lately. The show won't last,or just won't be planned thoroughly enough. The company suffers from bad management,it shows through their past. Also, previous busniess actions have shown this as well.Imo,Speed would probably be the best choice, but with Nascar coverage up the ying-yang,I guess that's not possible.

Their shows don't last???? Um Star Treck is an ongoing show, MXC (the BEST show in TV), Rolling with Funkmaster Flex (that one may be gone), Miami Vice....I think i'm making my point here. Spike TV is a young channel. It is still looking for it's nitch. So it is going to try to find programing that will enable it to hold onto a share of the market. The channel is devoted to a younger mid 20's audience. Their programming reflects that.

All of the chanels don' have stable programing, look at the major ones. ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox, Turner any of those dump just as many shows as Spike does. Alot of Spikes shows are just reruns of the ones that other chanels dumped. Shows hit and miss all the time. I personallly think Spike is the perfect channel to host this sort of programming simply because it is fresh and young. Whether you like it ojr not, MTV can put out good programing when they try to. They have the budget, the manpower and the name to make this show a success.

thank you Duluth. you dont kno how much i wanted to say those words without backlash from the other guys on these boards. anyways, some of the people on the boards here profit from ricers so overall, its all about money, and im not complaining keepin the demand comin' and i'll supply. like he said, without the extended use of hollywood hype, the general public won't get exposed and there fore no demand for race products would exist, meaning not enough tuned cars on the road for shops to open up for, and no reason to sponser an event with nobody to showcase it to.
