yeah i saw that vid....i think imamura was too close.....also an example would be @ Leguna Seca with the final round with Ken Gushi versus Rhys Millen when the same situation happened and Millen was let in the dust........

Passing?? (D1 and Formula D Rules/Judging)

Naw, Ryse just over shot the turn and went wide.
If you notice there is not much Passing in D1 but in the few cases that it does happen, usually on tight courses with multiple turns, the back car does come from the outside. They clearly out drive the other car by moving around the front car, then take the inside line for the next corner.
Now if a driver misses the turn completely, then it just opens up the inside for you to take it.
The case of sam at formula D, he took away everyones line. Non of the cars would use that part of the turn for an apex. The actuall apex was on the corner of the D area before the drop back down the hill and that is what the judges told us to hit.
Drifting is not racing, If it was, you would be timed, if you where timed, why drive sideways?

So if the Judges told everyone to hit the turn with that apex, I dont understand why they gave Sam the win. Yeah he did pass, but he didn't take the right line. Seems like he did the opposite of what the Judges wanted which gave him an opening to cut off other peoples lines and go for a pass. And the Judges awarded him with a win? Seems like a contridiction to me. I didnt know thats what the Judges told you guys. Now I feel like you totally got ripped off.

Yes we all got ripped off. It was a mistake the judges made and since they made that mistake, they had to just let it continue. The worse part was Tarzan trying to explain to the crowd of people booing the decision, that he gave the win to Sam because he knows how hard it is to drive that car.

What kind of BS is this. Drifters are racedrivers at a few points, the good ones have precision, their own way of choosing lines and so on. If a judge told you to do exactly what they said, you seriously wouldn't listen would you? A driver has to find his line, the one that matches him and his car, there is not just one way to go around a corner. period.

yea i agree w/ Razer.
Dunno what alex is talking about tho...
"Drifting is not racing, If it was, you would be timed, if you where timed, why drive sideways?" Maybe u go sideways because ur going too fast for ur tires, i have a 2 buddies who drive 800hp 410 Sprintcars on the Dirt and the Pavement, and those things are almost in a complete drift the whole time around, and they sure as hell are racing. they probably could time the drivers in D1 or FormulaD. but back to the point,
If drifting is not racing, what is it?
in my opinion, drifting is just one of many different skills that a driver has to make them fast, but who knows...
I'm no FormulaD Driver, i'm just a hillbilly.

What I think anyways is that one of the aspects of drifting is to be very sure about what you're doing. You have to be able to have total control, and do exactly the same perfect drift several times, so it's easy to point you out as one of the skilled drivers...
Many people can do one nice drift, but the good drivers do it all the time...
So if Alex does everything he gets told, he should have a guy telling him to win every five minutes or so

As I've seen, the act of drifting a car is meant to clear a corner when grip is just not fast enough. Watch WRC any day and you'll see em do it on tight corners. Now in my oppinion, those drivers are the best of the best because they have all but mastered so many driving techniques, and use them while battling multiple terrain and adverse conditions. Drifters are just exceptional at that precise style. The thing is, drifting is so difficult, that not you cant get the maximum speed through a turn every time you do it, and it has been glorified so that flashier drifts are the big attraction to the sport. I think in the future as the sport grows, you'll see it break off in to race drifting, and style drifting sections, and become 2 different sports. Simply because not everyone can agree on if drifting is a race, or a style contest. Right now its pretty much run like Project Gothem, with a kudos system, the points are most importent, but you have to be racing too.
the conclusion, who cares, this sport is too new to conclude anything, but I think people should consider what they value most about drifting now and then.

When they (the three kings) set up the course they also run a few laps. This is when and where they decide what line is acceptable and where the apexes need to be clipped. They have this in mind when they judge and explain it at the drivers meeting. Its not being told where to drive but where the points are at and criticle spots for more points. Just like last D1 the outside wall of turn one is not a desired line but it was included in the judging for the fans. And yes Passing is what you want to do. I watched Kumakubo and Taneguchi go 8 laps passing each other. If you get passed and cannot pass back by the second lap your out, Done, Finished. Get over it thats the rules you have just been handed your butt. Thow an inside pass is the easiest and most common the outside pass is the hardest and most points are awarded for the manuver.
