Every single one of these threads on every forum...they all claim the same thing. Just because you have the title, does NOT mean that it is 100% street legal.
The various governing bodies all operate SEPERATE from each other.
Try to prove HOW this vehicle is legal. I (and probably a few other people on this forum) can prove otherwise. I've done it before, and can certainly do it again.

You can get a title, get a tag and all that, sure. Flirt with Flo down at the DMV and you might get all that. But, if you got pulled over and the cop REALLY wanted to be a ballbuster, you could get your car taken away. Especially if he knew what it was.
Local law probably isn't going to give you much hassle if your ducks are in a row, but if someone from the Feds finds out. You can consider your car gone and a good bit of your money with it. Big fine for that stuff.

If youre a hardcore Silvia fan, learn Japanese and move to Japan. There are Silvias everywhere for a fraction of the cost and hassle it would take to import one here. It would also be good to see how life is like in another foreign country too. I know I wanna move to Japan to race them cars that we all drool over cuz well never get them (I drool over the ASL Garaiya, Tommy Kaira ZZ, and my all time favorite RX-7 FD)
And lets say you do get one legally. One day youre drifting and break something thats cheap small and inanimate. Well that inanimate cheap little part is gonna give you hell trying to find in America! Its not like you can just go to your local Nissan dealership to replace a broken volume knob on that S15 radio on a car that was never sold within America! Never overlook the little things!

yeah, i personally dont think its worth it, and if you want tp be around them, go to japan.
But now that i think of it, wasnt there a thread just like this awhile ago about the same subject??? I have a weird feeling that this isnt the first time this has been posted

Has anyone here really looked into what it takes to bring a single car into the US? It isn't as bad as you think, companies like Motorex have more rules because they are retailing the car, but to bring it in privately is not hard as long as you do your paper work for your state. My celica is like that, it is legally in the US but as the car is right now is only legally taggable in a few states due to emissions and such, infact in NH any vehicle imported or not is taggable if it is 15 or older, the state doesn't car just have the bill of sale and papers showing you own it and that is it. Contact your local DMV you will be supprised I think.

Down here you could probably get a S15 and put a S14 vin. There are so many conversions down here most cops wold probably believe you. One guy has a S14 and he put a S15 front clip on it. So he drives on the RH side and everything. So saying you did a rear tail light conversion also wouldnt be that hard to believe. Though it would be illegal and you'd get tickets. You'd still be legal to the point where they might not take it away. Just that you'd get recon, unsafe vehicle, etc.

Alright...read this. Written by a good friend of mine.
http://www.mirageautosports.com/GTR/Importation.html
Cliffnotes version for those that don't want to read the whole thing...
There are 5 various government agencies that are involved in order to ensure that your vehicle is 100% street legal. If you do not satisfy the conditions of ALL 5 departments...the vehicle is NOT street legal.
1) NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) or DOT (Department of Transportation)
2) EPA (Environmental Protection Agency)
3) Customs Service.( Part of Homeland Security now)
4) CARB ( California Air Resources Board) if you are in California.
5) Local Department of Motor Vehicles.
List of vehicles eligible for importation (Notice,....NO Silvia currently)
http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/...LIG071404.html
They are strict on the rules because if exceptions are made...that can open up a huge can of worms w/ other people and their cars.
If you want to see how much of a PITA the government can be (and how ridiculous things are some times...) read this.

Lots of people talk...very few can actually produce. Ever fewer actually do stuff legally.
