    Taka's Bio

    Driver: Taka Aono
    Birth: 1969

Taka Aono has been Drift Association's chief instructor since the beginning, and possesses a long history of competitive driving. He's achieved numerous awards in autocross events, and is now competing nationally in the Formula D series. His professional demeanor and renowned mechanical skill with the 4AG motor put him in a select group of talented driver/mechanics.

First and foremost to Taka is his commitment to teaching drifting to drivers. At every Drift Day he can be found hopping from driver to driver to offer his recommendations in developing proper technique. As Drift Association's chief instructor, he sets the lead for all other instructors to follow. His course designs have been used for D1 Grand Prix operations in the U.S. throughout 2004, and next year he will continue to offer his expertise to the very highest levels of professional drifting competition.

Taka's mechanical knowledge is also extensive. This year Taka, with the assistance of many special friends at Drift Association, reassembled his competition AE86 in two weeks from nothing more than a shell. His knowledge is included in the resources available at Club4AG.com, which is one of the most comprehensive technical references for the AE86's powerplant.

    The Car:

Taka's AE86 is unmistakable. His reflective blue graphics demonstrate his professional and eye-catching style. The engine is also unique, with a complete set of Toda internals pulsing through his "Black Top" 4AG 20 valve. Many consider this car the most well developed drift AE86 in America. Even with this level of tuning, Taka often finds himself competing against cars with 2 or 3 times the horsepower.

                Samuel Hubinette
                text from toxicdrift.com

Samuel Hubinette, AKA The Crazy Swede, was born and raised in northern Sweden. He was not only born with a passion to race, but with a gift. When he was 8 years old he started to slide cars around on the Artic frozen lakes. Since the country was covered in snow eight months of the year, drifting became second nature to him. Controlling a car while sliding on ice and snow is something his father taught him at a young age.

By the time Samuel was 16, he had his first competition in Rally Cross. By age 23 he was working as a Test Driver at Volvo Cars. He worked at Volvo for 9 years until he set his sights on America. He came to Newport Beach, California in 1998 to hang out for a year (he was sick of driving fast). While here, he went to a driving event for BMW where he was able to compete in 330s and he ended up smoking some of the instructors. However, without a green card, he returned to Sweden and hoped to make it back to Newport Beach one day. Some would call it luck, others would call it God’s blessing, but Samuel eventually won the Green Card lottery and received his green card. He jumped on the next flight and was greeted by his SoCal friends. This began his journey for his dreams coming true.

After a couple years working as a driving instructor with Skip Barber and many driving/racing gigs, including starting his own racing school, Samuel landed the best deal he could imagine… Drifting for Mopar / Lateral G in the Dodge Viper. It just so happens that he signed this deal on April 1st. But, April Fool’s Day or not, he went on to win the first Drifting competition at Road Atlanta.

                      Birth Date: 1980
                      Birth Place: Redwood City, CA

A familiar face at Southern California Drift events, Lee "Slonie" Slone started performance driving in 2000 by attending local autocross events in the Los Angeles area. In 2001, Slone began drifting in Group C at Speedtrial USA track events. When Drift Day started up, he became a staff member and later an instructor for beginner drivers. He continued to autocross and eventually accompanied Taka, Hiro, Moto, and the rest of the Club4AG gang to Kansas, competing in an AE86 in the FSP class of the SCCA Solo2 National Championships.
In 2003, Slone competed in the inaugural Irwindale Ikaten competition and the first RS-R Drift Showoff while continuing to instruct and staff at Drift Association events. In 2004, he turned is attention completely towards the improvement of his skills and made plans to enter the competition circuit. Despite not entering Formula D in 2004, he made a promising showing at the D1 Driver's Search in August by placing in the top 8 out of 82 drivers. For 2005, he plans to enter Formula D while continuing his involvement with Drift Association -- including the organization of Northern California events.
