an SR is a true drifters engine....an RB is a POWERHOUSE. I just love SR cuz I work on it everyday and know it pretty well so I tend to lean towards it. An SR also has a good torque curve that is plenty capable of powering the G or the Z. There was once a Chaser in Japan that ran an S14 SR20. You can't really argue with an engine that makes over 300ft lbs of torque from 3-7,000 rpm. RBs are a whole different story...I really like them, but they are not as easy to work on.

yeah, everything RB is a little more difficult...plus, in a financial comparison, an identical part on an SR that plays the same role on a RB is about 40 bucks more on average automatically! plus that weird cam angle sensor thingy drives me nuts...

hey ernie, tell Franco that the life plaza drift kings says whats up next time you see him!

well yeah price and what have ya woudl definatly be in favor of the SR over here but say a major tuning company in japan was thinkin about the g35 for a drift mobile, then you think mayeb they would go for the rb? but then again dont they come turbo in japan? and also wouldent the stock motor be just fine for drift setup? how is the weight ration on those whales?

oh, and I meant SR in a Lexus SC430 or even some type of Mercedes chassis. Just cuz I heard the crankshaft for a Mercedes can cost over $6,000. I could by two S14 SRs or just one and put Cams and a big turbo on it and make it a vicous Lexus SC430 or Mercedes of choice.

there's a guy in battle magazine that swapped a SR redtop into a mercedes benz! it's soo rad looking...the motor looks like it's meant to be in there. I'll scan it just for you, ernie

Man look I like sr's and rb's and we just bought a g35 and the vq35de is amazing. Soo much torque and power. Until you guys ride in one you can say nothing about it. I wouldnt even bother swapping a new engine in to the g35. They have a twin turbo kit for the vq now and with that it could do some seriouse damage to any sr or rb powered g35 or z. No doubt that the rb and sr are amazing engines but it would just be silly to get rid of such a good engine that has a lot of potential.

So you wouldnt worry about giving up all that displacement? i take it you have a different philosiphy then the guys running the larger motors, like Millen's and Hubinette's. Do you find the extra displacement really isnt needed in drifting? Or is your skill simply high enough to keep a larger turbo spooled in all conditions?

Well thanks in advanced for answering any questions of mine. Im a big fan of you and Gushi, not to mention the cars. Saw you at laguna seca... good show. Anyways thanks again!

turbo_blitz...your probably right about the G35 engine. I don't konw much about it and there is a lot to be discovered about it still. I am just more familiar with the SR and find it cheaper all around to modify it.

nissanguy....I do tend to lean more towards the lighter package. I totally respect Rhys for putting in the time that he and his team has on the GTO. There is nothing wrong with the way he is approaching the drift scene. He has totally taken a new car and made his own enhancements and modifcations to the car to do what he needs it to do. The V8 is a good engine with amounts of low end torque that most of us small engine guys dream about. I would say I prefer the 4cylinder because it seams to have a smoother and more aggressive response when in its powerband range. Every guy should have his own preferences and I am sure each of you has your own opinions. Rhys told me himself that he really loves his V8 and how it works with his car. I really like my setup and am very comfortable with it. Ultimately that is what is most important. What the driver is most comfortable with and able to perform with on a competition level.

Now the Viper is a whole different story. I don't believe Samuel and his crew had to do a whole lot of anything to that car. 125k or total Mopar backing is all it takes to get a "Competition Coupe" and go out and drift the crap out of it. I comes with your choice of coilovers, carbon body panels, tube chassis, lexan windows, fuel cell, and BBS wheels right out of the box. What kind of modifcatin' did they do? I guess I speak from the experience of driving the Viper that car is made to suit any driver and just about anyone can be comfortable in one. Combine that with Samuel's level of skill and you have a "team" that is near unbeatable.
