nakes the board interesting. all i gotta say is that once you are engaged in an argument, dont back down and start patronizing the other guy. unless his argument is right.

Ok. I agree with alot you are saying but you need to remember alot of things.

        1.
as fot the quote, it was meant to be a joke, i still answered the poor guys question. lol its called sarcasm aha!
What you say is sarcasm, it hate and flaming to someone else. They may not take it as a joke since you didnt stick the usual things behind it to say it is a joke.

        2.
        Ziptied is one of them
        (*cough*scirocco *cough*)
sites like driftcentral.com are a little more welcoming but not so informative
Calling names, putting other sites down and just generally pointing fingers is not the way to shoulder your arguements. When people go to other sites to see who is talking the poop about them, they punch in their site names in the search engine and kabamm, they find this and all of a sudden we are talking crap about them. Even though these things are not really that bad, it is not good and makes for alot of animosity between sites and forums that should be friendly with each other.

        3.
They are new to drifting, thats why they are asking the questions. Sure they could research and find out on there own, but sometimes they feel asking is easier.
Exactly, they are new to Drifting. That is precisely why we put that catagory into place because their topics do not appear on the front page where everyone can see them, hence they do not get trounced upon near as much. I hate to see newbies trashed on, it's precisely what this place does not need. That is why we gave them a newbie place to go where their questions would not be trounced on. Sometimes that place is not a safe haven but most times it is.

See, you all have to understand, and I have said this before, this is the first place that 100% of people new to Drifting or wanting to find anything out about Drifting come too. Also, every recent topic that has been made is displayed on the front page. So, like I said, that is where we get 99% of our negative publicity from other forums. They pop on the front page, see stuff like "Takumi's AE86, how do I build it" or "Help please" and they are turned off right straight away. The term "Forum full of Newbs" is one that I have heard numerous times.

Now we turn to cursing and what not. As Drifters come to this site, so do sponsers who might be interested in the sport. When they come here and see "Asshats beware" or "So and so, go to hell" on the front page, they think that the sport is exactly what everyone who isn't in the sport thinks. That we are just a bunch of punk *Censored**Censored**Censored* kids that have no talent and are only in this to destroy things. Much like the bad rap that Skaters got. It's uncanny how related Skating and Drifting actually are.

So, look before you leap, think before you speak and odds are your time here will be pretty fun.

          Hmmm...

Flaming on forums is never gonna die out. Most of the flamage starts when someone is being just lazy and doesnt use that handy-dany search button. It happens here and it even happens in the GTA forums at PlayStation.com. All forums are gonna have noobs and people who know what they are talking about. Whenever you have a situation where people from different levels of the social structure there is bound to be some sort of antimosity eventually. Theres nothing we can do at all.

In a way flaming can be a good thing for a noob. It can give them a better idea how to carry themselves and act in a forum. After a noob realizes that asking about Takumi's 86 is something that is frowned upon they are gonna stop if they are smart. Overall I think its not that bad to flame a noob, but please, do it in a way that can be constructive to them and not make them think that all drifters are A-holes and shatter their dreams of becoming the next Takumi Fujiwara.

But remember, drifting is still a grass-roots motorsport. Its not like the noobs can just ask their muscle car driving dads how to do a braking-drift. So where do these kids turn to? Well my goodness, they come to drifting.com, who would have known? I'm one of those kids! I dont know anyone who even has the slightest bit of what Drifting is. Drifting.com contributed greatly to my knowledge of drifting. In a way I respect an look up to all of you guys who are actually drifting ur cars while I'm stuck on my couch playing Tokyo Xtreme Racer!

Bottom Line: Don't get mad, get Glad! Flaming can be good, just don't make flames that are total nonsence and dont contribute to someones question at all.

Those werent insults, i was pointing things out. Sigh, point is look at the poll, 12/5 in favor of 1, that shows something. And if you guys wanted to help nubs, you shouldve made the nub forum more informing. Alot of stuff that goes in there is crazy but maybe like a little link on the homepage that says "Nubs come here!". Just a thought.

...i wasn't trying to put any other sites down or anything, i was just using the other forum as a basis for my argument, not to shoulder it

...it would be impossible for me to lend any real input on this thread topic without some form of comparison

...i was just saying that in relation to others out there, this site does have a bit more animosity on it, that's all...im not tryin to churn any waters here

i think the angewr is high. I will admit a little criticism is good. But constant pounding of nood isn't cool. I consider myself new to the site and have only gotten yelled at once adn seem to be doing good now and that was for mentioning drifting a lwan mover. When i see i another nood acting up or doing somthing stupid i tell them and help them fix it. Not just ram them in tha azz and leave them fro the dogs. Should that the way a forum should be? to edutate and dicuss...

                  The Poll

                  Hi Nismo,

Sorry, I voted for number 4, but I was JOKING.... You are right, there is some animosity here, but I have seen worse. It seems you are a pretty reasonable person, and seem to be concerned enough about the rest of us to even ask the question.

So, don't take my vote seriously, the other ones were probably joking, too ; - )

I think people should go by that saying:

"If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all."

It makes me think twice. I am new here, and it seems the new ones get attacked a lot. If a question is a repeat, or someone didn't know where to look, just point them in the right direction nicely. Being nice is free (and it doesn't run out). Mary

Being s moderator on Ziptied, I will tell you what I, and most other people there, have agaist this site: People who have TONS of posts and ALWAYS post tips/advice/knowledge but DON'T REALLY DRIFT. Or they "drift" their AT 89 accord wagon! I mean come on, really. And posts like, "The pedals in a 240sx are too close together i always hit the wrong ones, I wear size 10"... WTF, that is ret.arded. I wear size 11 and NEVER EVER had that problem, and never will. I mean come on, learn how to frickin drive, the pedals are pretty damn small.

My main objection is how stubborn people are here and how quick they are to attack someone (me) for contradicting their "knowledge". Hey guess what, guy... I DRIFT, and people agree that i am pretty damn good. Fu.ck it, i don't care, call me cocky if you want, but if I know i am alright at drifting (enough to get suspension, aero, shop sponsorship, and hopefully tires one day). I, however am not liek Christian Rado who claims to be good at drifting and already has plans to win and do all this *Censored**Censored**Censored**Censored* ata pro level but um guess what Christian.... I'm trying to call you on your lost cell phone... you suck right now. We ALL sucked at one point. But we all admitted it. But DAMN you must be fast on that straightaway

Anwyays, i have seen SOME of you on this board drive. Boy you talk big for sucking so badly. I don't care if you suck and understeer all day long Marlyn, but why do you talk so big like you are the shi.t, and hate on other people. That is the new realm of "Angry Posers".

i agree wiht pg and ghost on what they both said. i know that i have over 400 posts and prolly most of them arent constructive or about tech or anyhting, but i by no means think that i am imamura or one of the d1 drivers. i actulaly think i suck, barely anyone has seen me drift seeing as how i usually drive out to where ever im going by myself. i dont bring a camera crew or anything, just my car sum tools and as little fear as possible.

i find it funny how popel try to act like if they were being sarcastic it justfies what ever they say. its damn hard to tell if someones being sarcastic over the computer. i can see if you say a sarcastic remark in person, usually you can tell by their tone of voice etc etc, but over the computer their is no voice its just words and words can be hurtfull (thanks oprah) anyways thats all i have to say. time to go back into being a dummb immature 17 year old

And there you have it. _PG_ is a nice guy and full of info. I totally agree with him. I have said it numerous times, I cannot stand a person who cannot drive arguing technique with someone who can. I have also said, I am more of a gripper than a Drifter. So therefore, I give little advice on Drifting technique. If I do, I don't argue what someone else says.

The anger that alot of people feel is due in part to themselves. They ask a question, get a smart answer and get mad and say that everyone hates on noobs. It's not that, it's basically people tired of other people trying to get something for nothing. You want info on Drifting, you want to find out things from people that know what to do then start by finding some things out for yourself. How do think all these guys like Alex Pfeiffer, Ryan Hampton, Tony Angelo, Chris Forsberg and the rest of the really good drivers out there found out? They did it for themselves. They pioneered the sport here and they did it on their own. Sure, there may have been some people into it before them, who cares, these guys above are out winning contests and making a name for themselves. Don't expect to get something for nothing and you should fit right in. They sure aren't getting something for nothing, they put forth a hell of alot of time, effort and sweat to get where they are now. Alot of people have. So maybe it's time noobs did too.

                          Yea, that's about it.

I love it when people post, get told to search/figure it out/take a hike and then get mad and go blabbering on about how we flame all the newbies. What a joke. I'm happy to help people where I can, but I'll be damned if I am going to waste my time on some 14 year old punkass who can't drive, doesn't own a car, has never worked on one, is too lazy to learn for himself, and can't type, spell, or even speak English.

That, and I tend to be overly blunt, as seen by the thread that just got locked and moved and featured two 14 year olds telling me to get out of the thread that they asked for opinions in.
