Ok a car back fires sometimes when gasoline gets sent down the exaust pipe and a spark ignites it which creates a miniture combustion similiar to what happens inside an engine. THts what makes that sound usually with high proformance cars that are in good shape.

my friends car is ka24 non turbo w/ 3 inch test pipe. that thing backfires. 3 inch is pretty big for an n/a car(hes getting turbo later) when you let off the accelerator gas isnt burned as much and with the overlapping valve effect all that stuff and also with so much low backpressure and no cat, unspent gasses and air gets sucked out of the motor and creates that popping noise and flash
n/a ka flamage lol
