it just looks beefy like that....

and with high psi tires and good hard short sidewalls they shouldnt even budge off the rims eh???

thats the way i am running mine...i havfe 9" rears...what do you guys say, 255's?? or 245's ???

on the front i guys i will run 225's...hmmm

Secret also builds showcars. For some reason, hipari is considered to look cool.

mk3mann- Explain my position? I've driven on at least eight sets of tires, none of which was stretched. I had 195/60R-14 Falken Azenis Sports on my e30 and did not notice measurable tire deflection. I don't see the point of running the risk, that's why I haven't run a set of stretched tires. If you run proper inflation pressures and tires intended for the use you're going to be subjecting them, you should never have a problem. If I were you, I'd decide if your Tom's wheels are going to be for drift or street and tire accordingly. If you go with hipari on the street, 99.99% of people will just think your tires have something wrong with them or that you have a screw loose, thus negating the positive visual aspects. If I were you, I'd go with 235s front and rear. Staggering tire sizes increases understeer.

05m0515- Being able to see the inside of the tire or the entire lip of the wheel is very scary to me.

Because stretched or not we go through more than 8 sets of tires per year from events, street (not condoning it), etc. So wear is just how fast can we burn them up. That's less of an issue with drifting. In drifting 99.99% of people will think something is wrong with you having bulbous tires. Sorry GRiD, but I think you're on the wrong message board..and that's not me being an a$$ or anything. You may have some knowledge, but what your recommending isn't recommended in our sport. And let me get this straight..you just recommended to have him run hipari tire on his car after saying it was BS to do. He has 9" rears and you said to run a 235..so now he'll be running my set-up which you said was garbage..well, basically that's what it boiled down to. I run a 215 on the 8" in the front though mk3mann if that's what your fronts are. I have video of Top Secret running several cars with hipari tire..so they know something we know, but GRiD doesn't. Oh and here's another one..to drive it home:

Oh no! They're running hipari tire at over 300kph!! Yes, and you too can watch them drive fast as hell on the street/freeway too on Grip Video. But wait! There's more!

Oh no and he's going to run it at Tsukuba circuit! Good thing, that must not be a real track! (yes I'm being sarcastic.)

No Kazama not you too! Why are you running hipari tire on your D1 winning Kei Office S15! The point is..the pros do it, not just for show either. So GRiD..if you know more than these guys..I worship you.

In drifting, the stiffer sidewall, smaller tire sizes, and decreased contact patch are all pluses. I guess I just don't really understand fully the thought processes behind stretching a tire past its recommended boundaries.

cuz it looks sick.... i dont know how the drift comps are judge out in the states but over here you not just judged on how well you drift.... youre also judged on style... 215 looks badass on a 9" rim

well i have made up my mind....

225's rear and 215's front on 8's and 9's in the rear...

end of discussion....i have all the info i need!

Falken Ziex 512's should do the trick eh? in a 30 series sidewall !!!!

                heheheheh

Haipri here i come...and you know what, camber wear shouldnt be THAT bad...escpeciall when tires are 75 a pop on the net SHIPPED....hehhehehe

I changed my tune. I'll accept hipari provided you don't undertire the car.

BooZTT- 235s on a 9" wheel shouldn't be stretched much or at all. (9.4" tread width) Let's get some pics of your car up... I'm curious now. Also, let me clear something up: I'm mostly against mega-hipari, i.e. tires stretched an inch wider or more. If the tire is only stretched .5" or less, I'm kinda apathetic. I dunno why I responded to your posts with such vitriole; you're right that I did jump to conclusions and it's pretty obvious that you do know what you're talking about, so accept my apologies for my posts if you took offense, and I will edit them to reflect more favorably on you.

The D1/TA/Wangan cars run WIDE hipari, compared to SKINNY hipari. Wider is a step forward, at least. It's not crazy stretched, also.

and my dads z car with the Re040's standard...i actually think they are 235 all around .....

235's should not be that much of a stretch....the stock wheel size on the z is 7.5 inch.....and the 235's are slightly wider than rims

PS: if you cant see the pics, right click then select "show picture"...imagestation is weird sometimes...

on the note of supra 225's.....i have a mk3 turbo...rebuilding right now....the TOMS are going on the supra
