After seeing the NJ runs on the tele, the great equalizer at that event seemed to be the transition. Hit it too fast or at the wrong angle and you spun or lost momentum. In Atlanta there is really no equalizer to help out the underpowered cars. If you don't have the power, you can't link the turn coming out of the horsehoe. The way the track is designed, the more power you have, you can just mash the throttle coming out of the horsehoe and link the turn. The slower guys can't do that and the layout forces you to scrub off alot of speed in front of the dirt. You can also tell the guys who are heavily sponsered by that one area. The big boys with the money and power can link it, the others can't. That's why Tony A advanced, he was in basically a privateer car doing sponsered driving. The judges recognized that and advanced him. He should have been in the top 16 hands down by his first judged run. He was in a car he wasn't used to and didn't practice in, he just hopped in and nailed it. Rock on Angelo.

Matter of fact, rock on all of DA. Between the awesome driving, even under adverse equipment failures, the entourage of scantily clad drunken hooligans and JR's freaking nightmarish sounding Mustang, you guys made the event for me. DA rules.

When DA gets fully running cars, that will be the time to watch. I think its gonna take a year for them to dial in their cars. It took RMR a solid year working on the GTO, and now look at him.

        And i vote Taka!

I hope drifting doesnt get broken up into classes, just stays different levels, part of the charm is seeing corollas against GTO and such.

btw, I've always loved that quote, and now that I know it was Ayrton Senna, I like that quote even more.

I dunno I wasn't there... but I've heard some interesting things, actually coming from the Formula D upper heads concerning the drivers(which disgusts me).... from the actual drivers.

For all you guys who weren't there or didn't have a good vantage point, here's the video:

                http://www.vosko.net/media/drift/enjuku/takavssam.wmv

As for the video being on club4ag.... my friend swore that's where he downloaded it, I've since looked and can find it nowhere. I also asked him what Taka had to say about it since Taka posts frequently on club4ag and he said "Taka agreed Sam won" but I cant find the thread or any post of Taka saying that, so let's strike that from the record until I can back it up, I don't wanna put words in Taka's mouth.

I think there is a better thread concerning this subject (albeit with a lil more drama and name calling) located here:

                http://www.drifting.com/forums/showt...0&page=1&pp=15

My post is on page 7.

Yeap from that video footage, looks like Sam won. That Viper just has too much power vs. a little hachi for that track. I saw points where Taka would grip just to keep up w/ Sam.

YAY, thanks for the backup, and yeah, going from a super stiff 500hp FD to a street S13 is a bit of a change, and you could see i was struggling a bit with it, but thanks for the props anyways, we are working on the FD and the S15 right now, getting them to be more reliable, so we can rock houston

ok know for my 2 cents. and yes i was there actually i was in the pitts and helped pour water on takas car. taka drove amazing there is no doubt about that if any one says other wise they need to get their eyes checked.
my biggest problem with the way that run was finally judged (and this may cause a little stir) is why the f**k formula d judges seemed to get pushed around by sams crew??? for example after there final run when they were suppose to run again it was said taka would have 5 min to get his car ready. every one was fine with that. so all the teams crews myself etc. start trying to cool this little car down to whoop up on some *slowmestic* A**. well after the mopar guys saw everyone helping taka they got pissed and started bit**ing in general to the people helping quote (this was the older tubby mopar guy) whats this my guy is ready lets run'em back to back, see what happens. and everyone just ignored is old hick a**. After noticing we all have ignored him this took about two minuets he walks over to the track offical and starts to complain and the track offical (very nice guy) says they have 3 minutes left and after that was said the entire (excluding sam) mopar crew rush over to the official and with in 30-45 sec says thats it the viper moves on. which is BULL S**T how can it go from you they have 3 minutes to n/m you guys move on. im going to go as far as to say mopar runs the show slipstream/judges dont want to piss off mopar b/c they are a huge sponsor i wouldnt be supprised if mopar is the one who got the G4 thing signed. i jus think it is total BS how that went down. taka should have got to run again and then we would have seen who the real winner is. to me atlanta goes down as a draw..

sorry for the rambling and jumping around but i am really upset about this. this is turning into nascar hick SHI*

Well, that sounds like the type of stuff that shouldn't happen.

The way I see it though, is regardless of that crap, SAM WON THE FIRST 3 TIMES, every match, so that drama is irrevelant, even though it should not happen.

I personally think the Mopar team was probably getting upset that they had clearly won 3 times and still the judges wanted it to go a 4th time. I sure as hell would have been pissed if I owned the team or if I was Sam, and I think Sam's driving in the 3rd match showed that he was fed up with the BS. After the course was over, going back up the hill, Sam floored it, dumped clutch and roasted the tires going back up, showing how badly his car dominated the Corolla in terms of power.

Your comments about the crew have been voiced by others as well. We've apologized to FormulaD and their staff for that incident. Mopar has made changes to their personnel so that this does not happen again. We take that kind of behavior seriously as it is not in the spirit of Drifting.

As far as the conspiracy you mentioned above...we can put an end to it. Mopar had nothing to do with the G4 TV Package nor is a sponsor of FormulaD.

                          Thanks.

That's more like the Mopar I know. Thanks for keeping your ear to the people and continuing to run a class act. I've always said that the Mopar folks were some of the most hands-on people in motorsport ever since I was involved with the Mopar sprint and midget engine program.
