well, JIC has already comitted to driving an S15 and a Porsche. So, if you're looking at who your options are for team drifting... do you go with "another" S13 / S14, or get something a little rarer in the US like an S15? JIC Isn't just going to pick up a chaser and build it for Dai just because that would make their team more diverse... They also have to assume that certain people are going to group themselves together - FAlken drivers are probably going to stick together for Team drifting, team AEM / Toyo is probably going to stick together for team competition, it's not like they can just pick anybody up... there are limited options.

In reality, I think that JIC realizes that Dai is an exciting driver, and it doesn't really matter what car he's in, Team Drifting is about excitement and entertainment, and with that in mind, it's good to have him on YOUR team than on ANOTHER team

With that being said, the question is what S15 then.

Will the HKS S15 be used for team pac rim/ rockstar and the JIC twin drift. Or does JIC already have another S15 for team drift. Or is JIC going to be building a S15 from scratch......

If there going to build a new one from scratch IMO, they might as well build something new... or shall we say diferent... or even better something they don't already have.

As far as Team Drift is concerned, it makes more sense to have three matched cars with three drivers who know exactly what they're doing AND what each other's doing. Perfect synchronization will add up to consistency. Consistency will add up to wins. Wins are what matter in motorsport.

The Mopar Viper is hardly a good example in this case because it had the benefit of Mopar engineers and generations of SWC and VRL team setup. You think Tommy Archer's 3R Racing had nothing to do with what Team Mopar told Shaun Carlsson?

Falken's Mustang is setup by Mustang specialists (XMP, as you point out) and speaking as someone who regularly deals with three and four link stick axles, they aren't rocket science once you understand the geometry.

Gushi's 2nd Mustang has proven to be an axle-hopping mess that seems to spend more time crumpling fenders than competing successfully.

And by the time the AEM 350Z hit the scene, there had already been successful non-VQ powered Z33's, and the VQ had already been proven in road racing and even drag competition. Putting 2 and 2 together usually equals 4, especially with an experienced team that has the budget to do proper development work.

Blaze, you run to the NASCAR analogy way too fast, and it's crap in any case and you know it. GT competition in any series is filled with a glut of Porsche 911's, has been since about 1969, and that hasn't killed GT. In fact, it's supported it because it makes the competition accessible and creates a measurable standard.

The S15 is drifting's measurable standard of excellence. It's the benchmark by which we can judge how well other cars compete. Using that benchmark, circumventing expensive development costs and gaining instead proven performance is perfect for a privateer team like Rockstar/Pacific Rim. Teams like RMR, Mopar, and Gushi Auto have their manufacturer's development dollars at their backs, meaning they're not at a disadvantage with an offbeat platform. Rockstar/Pacific Rim would be at a disadvantage, so they're not taking the disadvantage.

That's racing. That's what I love about true cutthroat motorsports; The Will to Win.

You talk about these mustangs,Zs,GTOs, and vipers like you can open up catalog or go on some web store and order drift specific parts for them. LOL, these aren't S chassis, you cant get drift specific mustang parts from jegs like you get S chassis drift spec parts from more-japan.com. Takes a lot of trial and error with a car that has never been built for drift before. Making parts from scratch, there is no emailing so and so from this team and asking them whats there alignment settings... or checking out the specs of the other competitive form of vehicle your trying to duplicate or match performance with.

And dude... if you think that Grand American, Speed World Challenge, or other series where basically all the competitors run the same chassis is entertaining... thats on you. But seeing those series have bigger fan bases and rake in a lot more cash and factory back support I guess you can't go wrong. Thats why I'm not that big of a road racing or nascar fan . And seriously, as a driver it must be a huge risk to run a car that multiple other competitors run.... especially if the mods aren't that diferent. Same SR motor and full suspension and steering rack setup. Most drivers of the vehicle will be running basically the same line, if not you better hope that your line is the best because there 10 other dudes the judges can base your run on... get what I'm saying?

I rather run something original and do my best and not have the judges saying "so and so is running the same chassis and his line was much more aggressive". Do you ever see ice skaters wear the same costumes, dance the same routine to the same music??? Hell no, that would be.....BORING!!!! Seeing that drifting isn't a clear cut race, originality is a must. Ish... in a race who cares if everyone is running the same car. As long as you finish first you win, no one is judging you but that checkered flag.

          I agree

But if you were a judge, would you give more points to the team who is running the same chassis and setups with perfect synchronization or the team who is running diferent chassiss and setups with perfect synchronization?

            it's judged by the crowd.

it wouldn't have anything to do with the 6 months Tanner spend driving a 350z with the same turbo kit on the set of Fast and Furious, would it?!

wow, surprised no one has said it yet.

Drifting isn't about the car, it's about the driver. Sure you need a reliable and good enough car to help you finish events do what you want it to do.

Drifting is a motorsport that boils down to driver skill.

We will be using our current S15 that we used last season but with a slightly different graphic scheme. The Porsche is already in the final stages of development and will be ready shortly.

We will also be using Kenji's Personal S14 from Japan (and it will look like the S15's grpahics) for demo purposes.

Kenji has talked with Dai about team drifting. We just have to finalize everything with Jerry and Dai.

Yeah he did own a S14. I went to his house in Japan and we took a "ride" in it in the cold winter night in Japan.
