I could have sworn though they announce they were dropping that rule at SEMA.
Yeah, they dropped the LIMIT to the number of companies involved in FD, and were OPENING UP the sponsorship to any company that shells out the buy-in amount
cars do have a role in how far a driver can suceed to a point.
i personally feel half of falkens team is dead weight.
i dont give a damn about how nice they are, when its comp time they are already in the pits due to a crash or not making it.
im getting tired of it.
A lot of what i've seen is there are plenty of cars out there that are not run very often, but they are still sponsored. While working around AMA superbike a little with a film crew i noticed a lot of sponsors are there just to be there and have a presence in the paddock. Noone could touch suzuki anyway so it was just about putting on a good show in the pits. Corona for example, about mid-pack team most of the time but the way they present themselves people would think they are one of the better teams. I would imagine falken and many others are doing something similiar. Plus the wider range of vehicles you have the broader market of people you have walking by saying, "oh i own one of those," and they start to show a little more interest in that car rather than the sponsored car they dont own.
Of course this is just what i've seen i am not sure what falken is thinking when putting together their giant fleet of cars and drivers.
In a sport where the ability to gain enough closing speed without driving through the lead car's door can be the difference between advancing or parking in the pits (assuming that angle and clipping points/line are relatively even) how can you argue that you can have too much HP? Better yet...TQ? As long as you can control the power with suspension set-up... why not?
I agree. Certainly, skills and balls can make up the hp/torque deficit. However, having the necessary hp/torque under your foot can make things easier and more consistent and even make up a minor mistake. And more over, losing to high hp/torque cars after the pace cone just make closing in a little more difficult. When everybody is going high hp/torque, one will have to step it up to stay in the game.
This is just speculation but it could be because they aren't a "series" sponsor this year and rather are just running their team.
I know for a fact that Falken has pulled most if not all their event budget (major car shows, etc) because of the ALMS team they're putting together for 2008. I'm just not sure if being a "series" sponsor of Formula D is one of the things that got cut
Regarding their budget, from what I was told, Falken Japan is no more...all Dunlop now. We were sponsored by Falken but now we're with Toyo (thanks Toyo!) for 2008.

Had not heard that, anyone else got comment??????????????????????
ironic since Dunlop is pretty much MIA this year in the US.
In drifting:
In formula d, they are major MIA
In NOPI they just sponsor a few drivers, basically the same thing they do in japan. No big big team with 2 or 3 rigs and there own mechanics and tire busters like falken USA.

their overall participation in Drifting is severely reduced from last year. Last year, they did the HIN demos around the US, and sponsored several more drivers than they are this year.

Ever since there original team owner died I (RIP), its been going down hill in my eyes.
You guys aren't making the connection....Dunlop and Falken are one in the same. Dunlop isn't as well known/respected in the US as Falken so their budget for drifting in the U.S. went to the Falken brand
