Now you are just getting plain ridiculous. Come on over and look at the books boys. Glad to see you guys are all swimming in cash.
Since you are all full of wisdom. Answer me this please. We have a huge
off-road following. Tuners and drifters though would rather spend their money at Discount Tire or some other local retail shop and paying retail than getting a better deal from a small businessman like badboytires.com. Any reasons why? Real answers besides some bad joke.
p.s. Jason, we're sending your race team $100.00 on the 1st.

Well, I do have my own site. But after talking to Chris, he and I came the the conclusion that google adsense wouldn't help me one bit. I also have a a Spreadshirt page that is linked on my site, but I haven't made any money off of that, either. Like it's been mentioned, I'm looking for a way to plug the hell out of myself not pay the bills writing (would be kinda cool though).Originally posted by Slapshotnerd View PostD) Justin would earn money if he setup his own blog / website and made the same posts, but used google adsense or other ways of generating money (which Chris posted quite a lengthy list) and he wouldn't have to report to anyone, nor would he have to rely on anyone else to earn his fame
BTW, who is Jason?

Definately passionate!
And trust me I do appreciate your point of view but lets be a little bit more realistic.
Change that "would" to "could" earn money. Let's be real..just because someone starts a blog and plugs into all of those ad programs such as adsense and the like is no gurantee that he'd make any money for sure.Originally posted by Slapshotnerd View PostD) Justin would earn money if he setup his own blog / website and made the same posts, but used google adsense or other ways of generating money (which Chris posted quite a lengthy list) and he wouldn't have to report to anyone, nor would he have to rely on anyone else to earn his fame
.
He might make a little but it takes more than just getting a wordpress blog getting all those ad programs and then sitting back, blogging, and watching the checks roll in.
You of all people should know that to really promote a website sucessfully and get the kind of traffic that would be of value to sponsors it takes a substaintal investment. Be it SEO or paying to promote the site in other places or etc.
In the General sense I totally agree with you...but look at this particular situation.
I'm not out to knock BadBoyTires or anything but I'm pretty sure they aren't pulling in as much money as TireRack or DiscountTire.
Im sure he makes profits but if he's anything like other small business owners just starting out he is probably still breaking even and whatever razor thin margin he might have left is going to wherever it makes the most sense to put it. That's just how the game works.
When you umbrella it like that of course it sounds horrible...but there are people out there working for free all the time...they're often called internships or apprenticeships.Originally posted by Slapshotnerd View PostI think that profiting at the exploitation of the labor of others is very unethical and should be exposed when it happens.
I worked for a company free for almost an entire year and if it wasn't for that I probably wouldn't have the journalism career that I have now nor some of the connections I have.
Justin is new to the game and no offense but completely on his own he probably wouldn't make that much...and he can't just jump out of the box commanding the same rates that you or I would ask for.
What hes getting out of this is promotion of himself that he probably wouldn't get as easily else where.
It's not that I don't think someone SHOULD get money for their work...but I dont completely see a problem with someone whos new to an area working for free for a while to get his name out there and build his resume.
I'm not so ready to believe that BadBoyTires is out to just use this guy up and have things be a complete parasidic relationship. I'm sure they'll do whatever they can to make sure its worth his while.Last edited by MonkeySlide; 07-15-2008, 03:11 PM.

Thanks MnkeySlide. That's the best post yet. BTW, we have only been open since March 2008 and we were not looking for a professional writer. Justin is the type of individual we I was looking for. We'll make this work and hopefully one day we'll be on his hood watching him scream around the track kickin Gittin's *Censored**Censored**Censored*.
End this post now...

The funny thing is, I agree with this but for a totally different reason. Sponsorship. In my experience it doesn't do one any good to give more than a company has paid for. It only drives your value down in the long run. The company's end up wanting the same thing or more from you for less and less money. Then they get p.issed when you ask for more because you have done your time and gone above and beyond what they asked you for for little money to begin with. It ends up that they just give the money they should have been giving to you to someone else.....usually a bigger and better driver (or writer in this case). All you have done is help the company get to a bigger and better place for less money than they should have paid only to have them move on when you buck and ask for more. Then once you have gotten them to a bigger and better place, they can now move on to bigger and better drivers (or writers in this case) because of the "clout" you helped said company obtain thinking that once you did this they would remember you and pay you back for your efforts.Originally posted by Slapshotnerd View PostI think that profiting at the exploitation of the labor of others is very unethical
**Remember free swag is cool and all, but all you are doing by wearing it is promoting the company the company that gave it to you...so it still benefits them in the long run. Once they decide to dump you for a bigger, better writer...you are stuck with a bunch of free t-shirts and hats that are good for nothng but Goodwill or the burn pile (all of mine went to the burn pile)**
In my experience the whole "give now, get later" thing doesn't work...especially when it comes to business (maybe it works in friendships sometimes). ALL companies want to get the most for the least amount of money. I'm not going to say it NEVER happens that you "give now, get later" but in my experience it has NEVER happened
They always move on when you decide to up your price. It's a cold world out there. Don't expect ANYONE besides your mama to remember to good you have done
I am a small business owner and work on a VERY limited budget....so I understand the initial reasoning for posting. We have done well at making ourselves look a whole lot bigger than we are with all of our companies.... I will say that when I couldn't afford to pay someone to do a job....I did it all myself
On very few occasions, I partnered up with someone who was trying to do the same thing as me and offered them 1/2 the profits.
Although I'm sure you don't want to pay 1/2 of your tire profits to a blogger.

Price maybe? Commercials? Those are the top 2 things that come to mind.Originally posted by slider112 View PostNow you are just getting plain ridiculous. Come on over and look at the books boys. Glad to see you guys are all swimming in cash.

Well, English got hammered into my head in High School (really hard core teachers then), better and more positively reinforced (and taught better) in my first try at an Associates Degree (though a Ford Motor Company program at J. Sargent Rynolds Community), then both positively and negatively enforced when I attended and graduated ITT Tech.Originally posted by Tracy View PostYes and nice grammar skrillz
