Now you are just getting plain ridiculous. Come on over and look at the books boys. Glad to see you guys are all swimming in cash.
Since you are all full of wisdom. Answer me this please. We have a huge
off-road following. Tuners and drifters though would rather spend their money at Discount Tire or some other local retail shop and paying retail than getting a better deal from a small businessman like badboytires.com. Any reasons why? Real answers besides some bad joke.
p.s. Jason, we're sending your race team $100.00 on the 1st.

BTW, who is Jason?

Definately passionate!
And trust me I do appreciate your point of view but lets be a little bit more realistic.

.
He might make a little but it takes more than just getting a wordpress blog getting all those ad programs and then sitting back, blogging, and watching the checks roll in.
You of all people should know that to really promote a website sucessfully and get the kind of traffic that would be of value to sponsors it takes a substaintal investment. Be it SEO or paying to promote the site in other places or etc.
In the General sense I totally agree with you...but look at this particular situation.
I'm not out to knock BadBoyTires or anything but I'm pretty sure they aren't pulling in as much money as TireRack or DiscountTire.
Im sure he makes profits but if he's anything like other small business owners just starting out he is probably still breaking even and whatever razor thin margin he might have left is going to wherever it makes the most sense to put it. That's just how the game works.

I worked for a company free for almost an entire year and if it wasn't for that I probably wouldn't have the journalism career that I have now nor some of the connections I have.
Justin is new to the game and no offense but completely on his own he probably wouldn't make that much...and he can't just jump out of the box commanding the same rates that you or I would ask for.
What hes getting out of this is promotion of himself that he probably wouldn't get as easily else where.
It's not that I don't think someone SHOULD get money for their work...but I dont completely see a problem with someone whos new to an area working for free for a while to get his name out there and build his resume.
I'm not so ready to believe that BadBoyTires is out to just use this guy up and have things be a complete parasidic relationship. I'm sure they'll do whatever they can to make sure its worth his while.Last edited by MonkeySlide; 07-15-2008, 03:11 PM.

Thanks MnkeySlide. That's the best post yet. BTW, we have only been open since March 2008 and we were not looking for a professional writer. Justin is the type of individual we I was looking for. We'll make this work and hopefully one day we'll be on his hood watching him scream around the track kickin Gittin's *Censored**Censored**Censored*.
End this post now...

**Remember free swag is cool and all, but all you are doing by wearing it is promoting the company the company that gave it to you...so it still benefits them in the long run. Once they decide to dump you for a bigger, better writer...you are stuck with a bunch of free t-shirts and hats that are good for nothng but Goodwill or the burn pile (all of mine went to the burn pile)**
In my experience the whole "give now, get later" thing doesn't work...especially when it comes to business (maybe it works in friendships sometimes). ALL companies want to get the most for the least amount of money. I'm not going to say it NEVER happens that you "give now, get later" but in my experience it has NEVER happened They always move on when you decide to up your price. It's a cold world out there. Don't expect ANYONE besides your mama to remember to good you have done
I am a small business owner and work on a VERY limited budget....so I understand the initial reasoning for posting. We have done well at making ourselves look a whole lot bigger than we are with all of our companies.... I will say that when I couldn't afford to pay someone to do a job....I did it all myself On very few occasions, I partnered up with someone who was trying to do the same thing as me and offered them 1/2 the profits. Although I'm sure you don't want to pay 1/2 of your tire profits to a blogger.

p.s. I understand where you are coming from totally. I have just been on the other side and understand where the others are coming from, too
