Samuel Hubinette vs Alex Pfeiffer

    Okay after watching the video again...here are some of the things that show why Alex lost in the end...

    1st run - Alex took a bad line and came out of the drift on the first turn. While it looks like Sam was gripping...when you look close it looks like he was actually drifting but with an extremely small angle. Also Sam was able to drift all the way out of the circle and in one drift all the way out to the straight away while Alex wasnt able too. (I understand that power is a factor here)
    WINNER - SAM

    2nd run - Sam tried to take the same line and drift that he did when he was in the front. Which is why he ended up pushign Alex to the outside line and also why Sam had to regrip and break it out again.
    WINNER - ALEX

    3rd run - Alex was unable to hold his slide and ended up going into the dirt. And once again Sam held it all in one slide from the circle to the end.
    WINNER - SAM

    4th run - Sam passed Alex...if you look closely and watch that section of hte video 10 or so times. You'll notice that Sam is actually sliding...but again with an extremely slight angle.
    WINNER - SAM

    It seems one problem Sam has with his tandem runs is that he cant modify his drift line when hes battling other people. If you look he takes the same line again and again. Which isn't really bad...but when theres another car there its quite hard and difficult. It seems what he does is connect the first few turns. And then he slides with a slight angle to the circle and then kicks the gas or clutch and busts it out to get more of an extreme angle to exit and take the turn. Understandable when you have a huge car in a tiny little track with such a sharp angle. The Viper can't get as sideways in that situation if he wants to actually pull off the next turn. But as for the lower hp and smaller Hachi he can stay on the gas and keep it out sideways more. One advantage just like when Ueo battles higher hp silvias and what not. Hes able to hold hte gas and get a extreme angle while hte larger cars have to let off the gas and compensate for the weight and size.

      Well we can dispute and speculate on what he did all day, but the truth remains. He won it and will go down as the winner of Formula Drift in Atlanta. It really doesn't matter how he drove it or why. Sam is a talented driver and congratulations are in order for him and his team.

      If you don't like the way it went down, get good and enter a competition. Then you can maybe be where he is.
      Myself included in that statement.

            Oh ghost.. with the wild west comment, i just ment that, it seems the closer you are to japan the more japanese like the drifting environment.. the hawaiian guys are a good example of that.

            Of course then you have the craziness on the west coast. so to my it just seems like the east coast is probably doing there own thing even more so then any of the other scenes (hawaii, california, even the midwest/texas guys)

            didnt mean nay offensive or so say your drift scene wasnt advanced. Just that the rules and whats acceptable out there, can easily be very different from the japanese style, do to the geographic distance.

            EDIT this was post 1400.. man i need a regular job..

                      Somthing i can show to prove my point to these "non educated" people who think that underpowered cars cant compete with high level cars.

                        with all respect to Alex, his drifts into the first and second corners on his second to last and last pass were weak. That's why he carried more speed...Sam was drifting, Alex was gaining speed for the uphill run to the horseshoe.

                        They were both doing what they need to do to win.

                          Not quite. The video isn't proof, since that hachi is boosted and puts about 230 to the ground. Skill counts more than power, but when all your competition is good it can suck... sometimes it's too much to make up. And when you consider equal drivers in otherwise equal cars, I'd like the power please.

                            I was there and I loved it. I "brought my dad along" and he was so into it afterwards, in his '03 Ford Taurus, we drove to a skid pad where we watched the race previous to the drifting (we went on the 25th) and had some fun, lol. I had used 20 pictures of my 27 exposure disposable camera I bought there in the garage area so only got 7 action shots which came out terrible.

                            In the garage area, before I bought the camera, I shook hands with Tarzan Yamada and got to touch his Benihana Viper! lol.

                            There was an RX-7 FC3S that tried to qualify, but didn't.

                            BTW, I'm new here, but not new to forums, so don't worry, I'm not a stupid n00b. I moderate the General Discussion on Initial D World Forums if you're into the original Initial D before TokyoPop came into it, you should check it out.

                              you've also got to remember that sam hubinette was a driving instructor at skip barber racing school and was a stunt driver in several commercials. He's used to taking the advantage wherever he can get it. The same also goes for rhys millen, son of steve millen (?)(rally god), that car was purpose built FOR drifting rather than being a street car that can drift BTW anyone see that WAY cool slave cylinder hydraulic e-brake? I started work on a protoype as soon as I got home . Well that and sam and rhys were both factory backed with techs all over and alex ,as well as most of the other independents,was just going on what he himself knew. Which is why I absolutely loved the event but disliked the way it was setup, with the rottweilers and the chihuahuas being thrown in a pit together and stirred. Because I'm pretty sure it was more than a few of the locals first real, legal track time with the exception of tony schulz, who I know has been at it for awhile, mad props to the one wheel wonder. But that is the nature of most motorsports, the one with the most money wins. But on the other side of the coin sometimes the independents come out on top, very few and far between, but I have seen it happen. Anyways enough pi$$in' and moanin' I still thought they were both awesome.

                                yea we were gonna have the first Drift Day over here in Mass but i guess that got cancelled or postponed... i was so excited to go see some drift and i got shutdown
