Correct me if Im wrong, but with higher power cars, you can control drifts with the throttle alot more than with lower power cars. With lower power cars, you need to control the drifts through aggresive steering imputs. Im making this assumption off of the fact that when Ueo visited Hawaii and drove Revlimits Camaro, Revlimit said that Ueo had a very smooth style. Keep in mind, Revlimits Camaro has over 400hp.
This post was aimed mainly at you, NastyNate. Ueo is the best. He is better than Taniguchi, or Keiichi, or anyone for that matter.

Actually I was first scared as hell that he was going to drive my car like that haha. Just imagining my clutch frying or my motor blowing up due to being revved to 10k.But yea he was actually super smooth and relaxed when he was in my car.

NOONE IMMITATES OTHER DRIVERS STYLE, every driver has a different style and your saying thats why they won d1? omg your so right. what was i thinking? and last but not least, "what does clutch kicking have to do with angle?" ROFL im not even gonna bother, ill let someone handle this one. Have you ever drifted a car??? if i may ask?
s agressive style?... i dont know why i'm trying to explain, he's TRUELY amazing, thts all... seems like the other people understood just fine... and about clutch kicking, EVERYONE is good at clutch kicking, am i right?... what does clutch kicking alone have anything to do with ANGLE? Angle is based on all aspects, depending on what kind of situation you're in, you could surelyl get as much angle E-braking or any other gabajillion techniques there are out there. and dont bother asking who and who does not drift...

I completely agree^ Not to diss you Nate, but just use general logic before you discuss your topics. They dont judge D1 at all on an aggresive or smooth style (so, having an aggresive style doesnt make Ueo any worse of a drifter than Taniguchi). They judge on other things like line, speed, smoke, angle, etc. By the looks of things, the only thing NOB does significantly better than Ueo is more tire smoke and quicker acceleration. (AND REMEMBER!!!! usually more smoke and quicker acceleration= more powerful car, not more driver skill). Ueo gets significantly better angle than NOB, and can often get higher entry speeds as well. Anyways... what Im trying to say is: Taniguchi=High powered car and awesome skill using it and Ueo=Low powered car and equally awesome skill using it. Thusforth Ueo is the better driver.Last edited by driftersil80; 05-23-2005, 01:59 PM.

At the level the D1 drivers are at, I'm sure the ones who place in the top 5 normally can hold the same angle given the same car... which means if you put Taniguchi in Ueo's car, I'm sure after a couple runs he could find a way to hold as much angle in Ueo's car as Ueo does.
The part about entry speeds: Given the same tires, how fast you can enter depends on many things as, well as weight of the car, and how wide the rear of your car has come out as you enter the turn (angle), etc.
And regarding your comment on high-powered car and low-powered car... That's quite an ignorant thing to say.. no?

Ok. You dont know if the thing about Taniguchi in Ueo's car is true. Ueo has spent many many years perfecting the tuning of and driving Hachi Rokus. He is a Hachi master, and I doubt that any of the top drivers would get as much speed and angle as he can. Maybe after a season of hard practice, but not right away.
My comment about a hi and lo powered car (if you are reffering to the better driver part), is not ignorant. It takes more skill to pilot a 200hp car to drifting victory than a 400-500 hp car. I think that can be established as a general fact. If you are reffering to the acceleration/tire smoke thing, its somewhat debatable. Though power-weight ratio effects accelaration a great deal, I dont think it effects cars enough at a D1 drift car level. I'll give you an example, at the Irwindale bank that the drivers drift on, the higher powered cars are almost always ahead of the lower powered cars, and they start their drifts much earlier. This is bacaused they take advantage of their higher acceleration, no? And about the tire smoke comment, normal 4AG hachis will never produce as much tire smoke as an S15. The drivers have better things to do with their power than produce giant clouds of smoke.

Actually Irwindale is a great example... I'm not sure which bank you are talking about (the larger, outer one or the tighter, inner one), but on the tighter, inner bank (the main turn), higher-powered cars would enter before lower-powered cars, but lower-powered cars all either maintained a quicker speed through the turn, or came out faster (as was evidenced in the first US D1 when Ueo won). I thought your comment on high and low-powered cars to be slightly ignorant because both setups have their advantages/disadvantages on certain courses. If you've noticed, in the past two years, D1 is being held more on faster, longer courses as compared to the early years. Faster, longer course favor higher-powered cars, while slower, tighter courses favor lower-powered cars of equal balance.
Now, remember who the first official D1 champion was....?
