Hisshou? What did you win at? Anyway, I've seen this video at Autobacs(Use to go every weekend, but the Japanese started looking at me funny.) where these 2 guys drift their S13s at a track. One guy had a manual, and the other guy had an auto. The manual guy went 1st, but he didn't have the best run he could have, then after he starts laughing at the other guy with the auto. The auto guy started his run...The auto guy DID drift his S13 using the so called "auto shifting", quite nicely I might say. But it would've looked better with manual. And the manual guy fell quiet after what he saw...

Ok I'm sorry...Geez...I just looked up the word...And I didn't say anything at being victorious in the car world. 'Thought you would've won at something else. And I'm not trying to be nosy. What gave you that idea? Fyi, I'm not "Thai", I'm Vietnamese. And if you want to go racial do it somewhere where you'll be accepted, which is no where. Thai is my last name. And you just offended me in a big way, buddy...I'm giving you the cold sholder...

how was that racist? explain to me...IM half THAI...when i meet a new THAI, im usually interested in what they have to say because they came frmo the same place i am related to; THAILAND.

i mean i dont know why you had to ask me what i was victorious at...look at other peoples things..its like "sidewayZ FO LIFE..DRIFT is where im at" and theyre 14 and dont drive..why dont you ask them? hisshou came up one day after i saw it at shinjuku and said it to some of my buds in football since we got first place last year, thus being victorious.

it seems like you're really afraid of arguments or confrontation..its a forum guy.

yet again i want to ask you...how was i racial? i didnt say anything about the vietnamese, guy. how did i offend you. just tell me.

I drift Auto and it works, but like Alex said there are disadvantages. Along with what Alex posted, another huge disadvantage is having to put the transmission in neutral to hold a long slide with the handbrake. If you leave it in gear then the engine will still be delivering power to the rearend. Regardless of how hard you pull the handbrake it will not lock up (and if it did then it would also lock up the engine ... BAD). So yeah, gotta get in the habbit of shifting to neutral if you plan to use the handbrake to lock the rear.

Anyway, my recommendation would be not to manually shift your car if the transmission is stock with high miles. Too much wear and tear. I know what happens to my domestic equipment is not really related to what might happen with your equipment (different build qualities), but I've already been through two stock high mile automatic transmissions in drifting situations and the failure point became obvious when I started manually shifting. After some research I found that there were three main problems. First is the line pressure, second is the computer control, third is cooling. In stock form, most automatic transmissions do not push enough line pressure to handle manual shifting in a roadracing or drifting type of environment for a long period of time. As you probably know, inside your automatic transmissions there are a bunch of clutch packs, and every time the transmission shifts, those clutches are what wears out. Stock transmissions come from the factory set for smooth shifting (as a comfort feature), which actually means low internal line pressure and more clutch wear. When people install a shift kit, what they are doing is raising the internal line pressure, which means the shifts happen faster, more firm, less clutch wear. So it does not completely eliminate clutch wear, but it will make the clutches last longer which means the transmission wont break as fast. The second problem is the computer control. I dunno, maybe your car is different, but my car uses computer controlled shifting. So the computer has pre-set shift points, sometimes if you do a manual shift at the wrong speed it will not shift right away. Sometimes this can mess you up since you need more RPM to keep the wheels spinning (drifting situation). This can majorly impact your drifting since you dont have power when you need it. Some turns it might be OK as the speed for that turn happens to match up with the shift points, but sometimes its not matched up and thats when it becomes a problem. The solution is converting the transmission to manual shift, or manual valve body. This will completely eliminate computer controlled shifting, puts you in complete control of manual shifting the transmission. This fixes the issue of having power when you need it, but also leaves the possibility of you breaking something by shifting it at the wrong RPM or speed (no more computer to protect you). Sometimes you won't have a full manual conversion available, so you have to make due with whats available. For my case there is no full manual conversion for my transmission, but there is a partial conversion. The first 2 gears are full manual, but the 3rd (top gear) is still auto. Not really what I wanted, but much better than computer controlled shifting. The final thing to consider is cooling. Since you will be manually shifting a lot, the transmission will get hotter than it would under normal driving conditions. Heat is a major enemy and should be stopped at all costs hahaha. So invest in a transmission cooler, this will also increase the life of your transmission.

So there's the three things I would do if you want to drift with an automatic. I dont know if these parts are made for the auto transmissions found in the cars you guys drive, but these mods will make drifting the auto easier, and it will last longer.
