Go with the MX83 model (from 89-92 i think)

Putting a Turbo onto the atmo 7M is a big task, and you wont end up with a great engine. i dont know what prices are like where you are, but as always, if there is a turbo version of your engine... use it. (you never know, an engine swap might be cheaper than the final cost of a turbo install)

dont underestimate the 7MGTE though, yes it has serious problems with head gaskets (due to improper fitting at the factory i believe) they are very good engines.
my new MZ20 soarer has a bigger turbo and larger injectors on mild boost and is making 218kw, All with standard internals... as soon as i get the new clutch in, tune it properly and bump up the boost a bit i expect it to hit the high 200's easily.

i have done the swap 3 times. here is roughly what was used each time.

92 soarer 1JZGTE_JZA70 supra transmission_ Modified JZA80 Diff

    92 soarer 1JZGTE_Soarer 5speed auto_ TRD LSD

    98 Mark 2 Tourer V 1JZGTE+Manual_TRD LSD

so far all cars have run beautifully, with only problems coming from the POWER FC computer in the swap with the MARK 2 driveline (the mark 2 transmission is electronically controlled, so you need a special version of the power fc to get both the engine and trans working properly).

my jzx81 chaser clip already got a 5-speed conversion done in japan, so my swap was a breeze.

btw, don't buy a cressida. these cars are cult classics and are only for people willing to throw in the love and labor. if you want your cheap thrill stick to the trendy nissans.

the same deal with my soarer, the previous japanese owners were kind enough to spend quite alot of time and money on it for me

the chaser/mark2/cressida are all pretty similar chassis
and yes you would be correct it is a fantastic drift car- unlike s13s everyone likes so much you have a plentiful wheelbase on the cressida and it wont spin out as easy also you pretty much have the pick of the bunh for toyota 6 cylinder engine transplants because there is plenty of room to bolt up anything!!!!

so far for me, my manual tranny swap has been pretty easy. the place i got to to get aftermarket parts is www.rabidchimp.com. the cressida is an awesome drift car. its got a great wheel bass and can put down some serious power. as for an engine i plan on dropping in a 1jz gtte. i just love twin turbo. as far as keeping it on the down low, im fairly sure we dont have to much to worry about. where i live ive only seen like 3 cressidas. and most of the time they were old grannies who didnt know wut they were driving.

the most similar chassis i know are between cressida and supra, they share engine and minor chassis parts, just not body. they have a heavy drive so it's MORE easier to spin out with all the engine's torque as well. You do have a wide range of items such as the 2jz, 1gte. 1jz and etc etc but drilling is prone to happen, nothing is just BOLT on.

I have 94 300ZX front 4-piston calipers and rotors on my Cressida now, they work fine.

As for the Swaybar, Whiteline makes 16 mm bars (stock is 10mm). Largus makes 1" bars and I had a custom 25mm bar made at Saner Performance in FL.

thanks for the info. what kind of power do you have. do you know if mk IV supra brakes will work? where can i get a largus sway bar? i'm not looking for a cheap thrill, i want a car that can drift and that not a ton of other people have. plus 4 door drift cars are awsome.

my friend wants to do a cressida too. as far as i can remember they had all the options and electronic dash as well.

he loves the idea no one in our city would think of it. but there is a guy who did a 350 swap into an 80's maxima. that thing is a heap but it's cool.

Look out for those rare FF cressidas with the panda paint.

in theory a cressida will make a good drift car, but in the real world its not the best choice. cressida is similar to the chaser/mkII/cresta, but the US got the watered down luxuary version. sure you can talk about all these engine/trans/suspension swaps, but it will take a lot of work and $$. even in japan they dont make the best drift cars. its probally a lot easier to drive and build an s 13/14/15

Tsuyoshi Tezuka in the Kids Heart Chaser is all that needs to be said, if you had seen any footage of Tezuka at all you would know that a chaser/cressida/markii etc is a more than approriate base for a drift car and not anymore expensive or hard work than any other project.

screw you and your nissan junk. i don't talk about swaps in cressidas, i've done them. I am hooked on the Chaser/Cressida/Mark II chassis, they are a phenomenal handler and the 1JZ just makes lots of power. I love my Kei Office/1JZ combo, wouldn't trade it for any 240sx.

so go back to nico/freshalloy and peddle your nissan ways, leave this thread to true toyota/x-chassis enthusiasts.
