Yes, Hiromi is an 86 driver, but Alex is also a chassis engineer and fabricator. I think this gives him an advantage in learning and adapting to new cars. He can diagnose what the chassis is doing and "work around it" perhaps a little faster than Hiromi can. Don't sell her short though. I thought she did pretty darn good around Irwindale, considering that track's history with female drivers and car-crunching crashes!

This whole situation isn't beyond saving..nor are the cars...its just gonna take some work..and after speaking with some key people on both sides I feel like the work is going to get put in to turn everything around.
        No.
I just work with what I'm given...

Exactly my point. You have to WORK with what you got. Not write it off when things dont go well right away.

No "new" drift car is going to be competitive out of the box and in the case of the MX-5's they haven't seen a lot of competition to begin with.

It takes a lot of work and run time to get everything sorted out. I know there were a few tests and things issues were noted but for various reasons not everything was fixed.

Does that mean they should just scrap everything? Of course not. Work gets put in..problems get addressed and things will get better.

Thats what every privteer that went pro had to do and thats what needs to happen with these cars.

And I have a strong feeling that what needs to happen will happen.

I guess you are missing the point that the miata is an ugly car.
Who wants to see that little turd out there getting sideways?

I got bummed when I saw it at FD with Alex driving it.

              Alex.....

You did NOT understand at all what I meant.

Let me explain it to you now.

So, we have a handful of ugly/stupid/ crappy Miatas.

I have to respond to them in a negative manner.

The "work" I did was provide negative feelings.
what I "got" was the subject of the miatas.

Trash them now before any more money is lost.

              Love,
              BH.

                have we forgotten....

these cars are over 2 years old?

they have been to dozens of events.

RMR solstice is 2.5 years old and has been competitive since the USAvsJap in 06

Gardella Solstice is a year old and they're team finished 7th overall

Falken sky....... well lets just not talk about that car, but its still more competitive then these cars.

I know its a different chassis but at the end of the day if your serious its the same concept.

I think team allstars needs to find a groove and get into it, if not shut it all down. They have been stepping on too many toes and writing too many verbal checks that there asses cant cash.

I love miatas by the way hehehe

Agreed. Tuerck qualified top 16 at the first event in the Solstice with stock wheels, some adjustable suspension arms, a diff, coilovers, and a buncha boost. These Miatas have been in development for 2 full years, and are still giant piles of crap. Hell, even Gushi in the Scion made top 16 in his first event in the car. The car went out for it's first drive less than a week before qualifying for Long Beach.

When you have the right people working on it, you can take a car into a competitive car in a short amount of time. The problem is, the team manager has never built a competitive drift car before, and doesn't know what he is doing. Even worse, when people give him constructive feedback, he talks down to them.

                  Example:
Many people told him that moton remote-reservoir suspension wasn't good drift suspension. The shop he had build the car put in Moton suspension because they had built Miata cup cars with that suspension. When the car was tested, and feedback that the suspension wasn't right for the car, he told the driver that the driver wasn't driving to the potential of the car. Several other drivers also gave similar feedback, saying that drift suspension uses different adjustment than road racing suspension, but he feels that since Moton is super-expensive top-of-the-line Miata suspension for 'race cars', that it should work just fine in a drift car. This is not the way to build a successful drift car. If a successful driver gives you feedback on things to change about the car to make it competitive, you should investigate them and not pass it off as being driver error.

Dude you find many drift cars to be ugly...I think it would be a challenge to find a car that you dont think is ugly...thats almost your trademark around here.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder my friend...although yes I think they're ugly too but hell there are more than a few cars on the grid that aren't exactly pretty.

I dont think everything should be scrapped because there are people out there who dont like the Miata.

                    Everyone has their preference.

And to answer your question of who wants to see the Miata get sideways? Try the hordes of Mazda fans out there. Not all of them are just about the RX-7/8.

As far as the length of time that these cars have been around and their level of capibility goes. Let's be fair..

Rhys Millen is Rhys F'ing Millen! His family owns a fabrication facility so advanced that they compete for military contracts! I know they dont use the same fab shop for their drift cars but the point is they have the resources to exenstive testing and work.

Hampsha has an awesome team and made the wise decision to not screw with things too much and as a result got a great car put together.

And when it comes to both cars...they were built for competition..and when you're in competition you learn things that sometimes you dont always pick up on when you're just testing.

These MX-5's were built to be demo cars and practically nothing more. They aren't battle proven and weren't intended for that. These cars weren't really being "developed" all that much either..they had a few tests and tried to sort out some issues but just because they've been around for this long doesn't mean they've had the same amount of time put into them to sort them out correctly as Turek or Rhys' cars.

lastly I'm not defending what Bill has or hasn't done so far..none of what I'm saying has anything to do with Bill...nor am I saying the MX-5's as they are right now are awesome and ready for action.

All that I am saying is that these cars are not beyond saving...a GOOD program for these cars is not impossible and efforts will be made to make things better.

I'm aware.hence my "dude you think all drift cars are ugly" comment..but serious or not there may be others who share his "opinion"...so I just don't want anyone to think that the MX-5 thing is a lost cause.
