  • Initial D Epidemic

The Initial D fad has made a big influence on the "drift" world today, and it's changing minute by minute. Because of the influence, many more people have started drifting. were you one of those who drifted because it seemed "cool" because of Initial D? Well, i wasn't one, i drifted before i knew about Initial D, Keiichi Tsuchiya was my idol, and drifting was more than just a slide with the use of the E-brake. Well, my point is, were you guys influenced by initial d to drift

well, i've only seen one episode on initial D and thats the extra stage. InitiaL D does partially influence you but itz mostly up to if u want to or not. drifting because its *cool* can cause some problems. always do sometype of research before you just start drifting on your local touge.

I learned of drifting from a friend of mine who watched Option vides and also talked about Initial D. I have a few Initial D manga and pretty much the only reason I have them is for the drift battles, which are very well drawn and really convey excitement in a 2D medium. In truth, Initial D didn't really make me want to drift, it was videos of real people drifting who influenced me. The final straw was going to D1 in Irwindale and seeing it all in person... I knew that's what I wanted to do.

I am, however, very disappointed in kids reading the manga and watching the anime then coming on here and acting like they know EVERYTHING about drifting when in fact they're only 13. Or the kids who come in here and start spouting off definitions with no point to them, straight from the manga.

do you really wanna know if people were influenced by Initial D or are you just trying to explain, right off the bat, that you're a hardcore drift enthusiast?

It's ok man....you can tell us...

Oh yeah, I was influenced by Initial D...and I'm not afraid to admit it.

              yeah i'll admit it...
              It all started last thanksgiving...
my family went down to vegas to see my cousins new house, while there we hit the casino's. since i was too young to go in the casino's i hit the arcades...and there it was....initial D arcade stage. before i played it i knew aabout drifting a little, because i have wanted a 240sx for ever and my cousin was telling me about how they are good for drifting. so i looked in to it...
but while i was playing the game i would drift the corners and such, then i realized....drifting is the coolest thing ever....after the trip i came home and got online. i looked up videos on kazaa and google. i would go out in to empty parking lots to mess around in the rain or snow....then christmas came, my cousin got me the first dvd of initial D. i watched it and i learned alot....before i watched it i did not know what the terms were..like eight six, fd, and fc. then after months of watching it and surfing the web to get videos...i found drifting.com (i know, why didnt i find it sooner?). and here i am

                hm interesting story...

for me it also kidna started with ID. something in my head promepted me to download a vid from kazaa with cars in it, so i went to kazaa vids and just typed in cars and this vid came up so i dled it. the background song, unbeknowenst to me at that time, was no one sleeps in tokyo. i loved the song, so i went to find out more info about it and came up with ID. I went back to kazaa and in a bout a month had every single episode from 1,2 stage, 3rd stage the movie, battle and extra stages. i was hooked, then i thought, "theres got to be more than this" so i looked further online and found club4AG and atended one of their DD, DD10 to be exact, and at that event i simply fell in love.

so to answer your question, yes initial d did help in the advancement of my drifting knowledge.

Same. I was into cars than I saw Initial D and I wondered if this thing called "drifting" did exist so I researched and researched. To tell you the truth there wasn't a whole lot of sights on it. Just a couple of how to heel-toe articles and such. Drifting.com wasn't even up yet. You should of seen me when I found this place, a kid in a candy store doesn't even compare.

I've been into cars for a while now, and about 2 years ago my friend who's really into anime goes, here watch this, hands me 6 cd's with initial d on it, it got me hooked, i've loved rally racing for a long time now and watching the show looked like a tarmac rally to me. Yeah it's outrageous and yeah it's ridiculous, but hell i play hockey too and watch hockey movies that are the same, speed racer was a classic car show and i don't ever hear people saying "oh my god i can't believe you watched speed racer". I watch the show cause it's about something i like, and i know it's brought more people into the sport, what's wrong with that? oh and for the guy who said that tsuchiya is his idol and that initial d is crap... read the credits sometime, he's a consultant. I'm not saying i watch the show and go "wow i can do that" i watch it and enjoy it, yeah it helped spark a little more interest in drifting for me. so what? why is that bothering you so much that i like a show about drifting? i can gauarantee you if you watched a show with a cartoon tsuchiya doing the same thing you'd be all about it... so let's please stop having this same argument every 3 weeks

I'm too old to be influenced by a cartoon in this way.

Everybody gets into drifting because of the "cool" factor. I admit thats is why i started to like it a few years back, it's one reason i bought my car. People are starting to realize that the 240 was a overlook car for years. I 'm happy to say that i didn't over look it ,and I've always be interested in the other popular ID cars. I never seen ID before i got into drifting, but i love the story and the animations. It's a great look into the intriguing culture of japanese racing.

Exactly the same man.. I was a big S13 fan before i saw initial D. i was a large anime and manga fan, but i hadnt read initial D yet, i guess only the first 2 books were out at that point,. I flipped threw the first page saw a nissan silvia so i bought it. Having been interested in S13s i've heard of drifting but didnt know much about it, I guess Initial D helped that. I still buy every initial D manga they release (Manga>Anime) But i also became very facinated by drifting and began to learn about it. And thus i am here today as a drifter who also enjoys his drifting Manga.

But i have to agree with the guy who said he doesnt like the 13 year old kids comming onhere acting like they know everything. Its very annoying. I was already practicly a grown man and had been an import car fan for a while before ever reading Initial D. But i am thankful that i did read initial D, because thats how i found Drifting which has sence became my true love.

I find there is no age limit. Besides fans prefer to think of it as "Anime" or a "Manga' instead of a cartoon to seperate from childrens cartoons with little to no plot or character developement IE everything produced in America before the late 90s.

First off I have to say drifting is no where near popular around where I live. So it is not so much of a "cool" thing more like a fun thing. Second, I started drifting by accident, and then I started doing it because I was mad about something and wanted to express myself some how. Then that’s where Initial D came in and I started doing it more because I learned about "techniques." At the time I had no idea there were tech. for drifting. After I started watching the series I have to say I did get more interested in it.

So I didn’t START drifting because of Initial D, but it certainly was an influence.
